Some long-forgotten schemes in those first few shots too. Bring back memories of days on the Queens Building and the Gatwick viewing area. Great stuff! 👍

Thanks all for the kind comments. Certainly harder these days to get ramp shots like these unless you are airside.

I managed to fly on one DC-10 which was Wardair's C-GXRB. I managed more Tri Stars. Twice on G-BBAF and twice on C-FTNC.

I flew in a few 10s, they certainly had character. One of my most memorable flights was in a 10. I had flown from Acapulco to Mexico City in a Mexicana 727 but I deliberately booked the return on a DC10 15 as they and Aeromexico were the only operators of the variant, designed for hot and high operations. It was the last flight of the day and I counted the passengers on the flight, there were eleven including us. It took off and climbed like a fighter, unforgettable.

Really interesting photo's of the DC.10 brings back lots of memories, actually flew to Instanbul and returned on THY DC.10. one of which crashed 2 weeks later near Paris, certainly chilled me down a bit. Will always remember Laker AW, good to see his name is flying again with Norwegian.

I flew to Florida and Barbados on Laker 10s, good old Freddie! I remember the Turkish crash, they grounded all the 10s and we saw the whole UTA fleet parked up in Paris soon after.

I remember the unfortunate American Airlines one when an engine fell off soon after take off, If I remember rightly, from Chicago. I think this was the one that precipitated the worldwide grounding of DC10s.

Superb Denis, lots of great memories when the "triples" ruled the skies. Fully agree with all who have responded, excellent memory jerkers. Made me go back through some of the DC10s I've graphed over the years. Here are a few in schemes not covered by Denis' super selection. If you can stand the sight of grown people crying I'll later also post a selection of those I've photographed in store/scrap. 99-sb by dave tompkins, on Flickr 74-an by dave tompkins, on Flickr 86-dw by dave tompkins, on Flickr 99-qm by dave tompkins, on Flickr 86-cw by dave tompkins, on Flickr 99-qm by dave tompkins, on Flickr 85-fd by dave tompkins, on Flickr 89-bb by dave tompkins, on Flickr The United below is different in retaining its Canadian reg while on lease from CP, taken in Singapore some 20 odd years ago 86-dr by dave tompkins, on Flickr Finally (for this part at least) is one I actually flew on , Varig's PP-VMA. Found a few more of different operators, so thought I might as well share them before moving on to the scrap/stored examples- Dennis had a much better and uncluttered shot of 9G-ANA but I've included 9G-ANB taken at Accra firstly as I think its the only DC10 I ever graphed on my various trips to Africa and secondly as she is a survivor. Withdrawn at Accra she lives on (engineless and minus a few other parts) and now resides as a restaurant by the Marina Mall near the airport there. 95-cc by dave tompkins, on Flickr 92-oy by dave tompkins, on Flickr 86-ec by dave tompkins, on Flickr ac 600 by dave tompkins, on Flickr 75-bt by dave tompkins, on Flickr 99-ap by dave tompkins, on Flickr 01-ag by dave tompkins, on Flickr Stored and wrecks to follow.

Correct Dave, seeing any old aircraft ending it’s days like this is bad enough but when you’ve had a special relationship with any of them, it’s a little more painful....
But hey, we all eat baked beans!!!
Great shots Dave.

Very nice. I like the Lufthansa, Condor, SAS, Iberia... reminds me of my first trips to Europe as a child in the 80s! Also of a collection of Schabak models I had!
Request- The only DC.10 I remember flying on was THY from Istanbul back to Heathrow in 1987. Is anyone able to post-
A THY , KLM , Swiss DC.10?
Or one of the best G- regs... G-DCIO !
Thanks

Hi ZZ. G-DCIO as requested plus a rather poor quality shot of a THY example at Schipol (I was at Heathrow the day that the THY DC10 crashed near Paris en route to LHR. With BA on strike it had an unusually large number of Brits on board that day. Scenes in the arrivals lounge were heart rending as the news came through). Will dig back and see if I ever did graph KLM or Swiss examples. Thanks to Dennis for starting this thread off with his excellent set. Really has brought back the memories. ac 623 by dave tompkins, on Flickr 76-cn by dave tompkins, on Flickr

My really good friend was on TC-JAV when it crashed on 3 March 1974. I did fly on a BA example to and from Bermuda after that, but not my favourite flights!
