This year is the 40th Bristol Ballon Fiesta. To celebrate this, they intend to have 40 special shapes appearing over the weekend. Many will be old favourites tethered by BBML and the like, others will be seen for the first time in the UK. You’d probably have to be there from Thursday afternoon to Sunday evening to see them all. Unfortunately I can’t go Thursday or Friday this year, so will have to hope to get lucky at the weekend.
So far I need all 4 of the foreign and 2 of the British (OPAW is brand new, and I keep missing BNHN at inflation days !)
Another to be announced Sunday morning

The original fiesta in 1979 saw 27 balloons attend. For this 40th anniversary fiesta, the organisers are going to try and have a group tether of as many as the balloons as possible, that attended in ‘79.
Confirmed as attending (again credit to MJballooning- pics on their site)
G-EIIR G-BEXZ G-LIFE G-POLY G-LEXI G-HOME G-BBOC G-BGAZ
Others are expected, mostly early G-B... and a G-A...

Met office forecasting gusting 20kts or greater most of the weekend!
A lot of these shapes are only due to tether anyway, so will have to hope they find an hour or so during the weekend where the wind is acceptable.

I thought the shapes were due to fly on Thursday evening

Firstly, a lot of these shapes are old and will only be tethered
The special shape rodeo is Thursday evening and weather permitting would probably be the largest gathering of shapes.
But a lot of these balloons have been brought by the same people- eg. The British Balloon Museum and Library, so they won’t be able to inflate all their balloons on Thursday. They would have to do it over the weekend- usually a couple after the morning launches.
I suspect that, even if the weather was great, you would have to be there nearly all weekend to see all 40 shapes.

37 G-DMEZ Stuart the Minion 38 G-BIUL Expansion Joint 39 G-SATI Sphere 40 G-WESS Wes the Wolf
According to mjballooning...
The American birthday will apparently be tethered in tomorrow night’s glow. The 1979 balloons are planned to be tethered after the Friday morning launch, but this could change depending on the weather. The BBML shapes are likely to only be tethered once, for about 10 minutes at some point during the weekend.

Saturday AM is about the only launch window with good weather & little wind. I am travelling down from Shropshire for this one and then home via Kemble and staverton. If any one is about please say hello, I will be wearing the usual New Zealand cap & I will be on the side with the sun behind me.

SATURDAY MORNING - WARNING!!!
advice from one of the organisers on site is to get there early. As the only likely flyable slot, there will be a lot of balloons, including a lot of large passenger balloons and shapes.
These balloons will be going first and early- I have been advised to be there at 05.45 at the latest! I will get there for 05.30... please don’t blame me if we’re all sat waiting for an hour!!

Martin and I wondered if you were there Dave. Martin was going to Schaffen but cancelled because of the weather and came down here instead. Got to try and dry everything off now! That one launch was great though and saw the orange tether as a bonus so well happy. Shame about the Royals. If nobody posts any pix I will post some when I get home.

Yes Keith,a great launch yesterday and fantastic to see so many foreign registered balloons.Listened to most of the game on the way home after visiting Staverton,Aston Down & Kemble,if Bodvarsson was a natural striker he would have won the game on his own,we will need to beat Bolton next Saturday @ the Mad Stad as we then have two away games on the trot, the first is against Blackburn, don't want to be pointless after 5 games.

Yes great launch yesterday. Did any of you guys have any additions/ corrections to the list on the other thread?
With some help, I made it 120 flying. The “official” count was only 108 ! They seem to get their figures from MJBallooning- so I sent them my list! They said they’d check it tomorrow. Hopefully they’ll revise their figure.
I’ll post pics at some point- it’ll take time - the house is upside with kitchen being done a the moment! But I look forward to seeing yours too Keith.
I missed the Orange- that’s Ragley and Bristol I’ve missed it at...maybe Longleat...
