After yesterday's downpours, today's drizzle was moderately "pleasant".
Bit of drama this evening as "TABOR23" declared an IFE over hydraulic problems and had to take the cable at Lakenheath. Landed safely though.

Well, an eventful day. Lakenheath discovers a hole in their runway and 9 F-15Es temporarily diverted into Mildenhall - two of which received bird strikes (not drastic). Also the two straggler F-15s that dropped out of the return from Tyndall AFB finally got back.

And the day's glorious redeeming feature was "RCH346" the Hickam-based C-17A 05-5153/HH trailing SW-bound at FL340 over Marham at 11:25. This was only the 2nd US C-17 that I have made this year, bringing my total up to 190 (out of 222 in service).

That's very good, Graham - particularly as you are not a dedicated military spotter.
You have got a few to go yet (up to about 170 or so), but you won't find it easy to make one after that.

Another Rafale and a KC-135RT (one of the 8 refuellable ones) turned up, plus the USMC KC-130J did a sortie up to the North of Scotland and that was it apart from the USN C-26D departing. Usual flying from the Lakenheath local boys (not the French).

Cheers Mark. One of the advantages of being retired...…(looks smug). Looks like we will most likely be returning home on Sunday 7th July, but if you are up before then, it will be good to see you again Update to our departure date
We will be going home on Wednesday3rd July - no point in staying for the Independence Day long weekend. In any case, the runway is totally closed in order to undergo repairs, so no movements whatsoever until Monday 8th.
Lakenheath also closed for same period.

I popped into Mildenhall ( and paid my £1.50) to see the B52 and made 72599 KC135. But guessed wrong in doing the hall before the heath, as I heard the departure of FAF7167, but could not see it. Also missed departures of 2 of the based F15s I still need, only arriving in time to catch 5 departures of those already seen. Such is life!
