A lovely sunny day here in Devizes, kids back to school on Wednesday after the longest holiday they've ever had, wistful thoughts of a cancelled holiday for us as we should have been flying out to Rhodes on Saturday 5th and now that we're in September, as far as the weathermen are concerned, the start of autumn. For such a strange year, it has gone really quickly, just 116 days till Christmas....... Almost visited Devizes yesterday, en route to visit friends. We found a layby about 5 miles east of Devizes, and enjoyed a super burger lunch at Ian’s stand, whilst being entertained by Mabel, the army cocker spaniel.

Where was that Phil? I know most of the grub huts around here We came of the 303 by the Stonehenge Car Park, then turned left towards Devizes. Layby was on the right, and well utilised by the military, especially the range safety officers. Between the various tank crossings. It might have been onthe A360? Definitely had ‘Ian’s’ on the side.

A road trip this week cross country visiting friends and relatives. Wednesday included a slight diversion to Lasham to log 737s EI-GTP, EI-FDS and 2-JBZI. Lunch at the Solstice service area saw BAE 146 G-ETPK and Hawk XX327 up from Boscombe Down, but neither needed. On to Exeter where the pan included West Atlantic 737 G-JMCK. Thursday afternoon in my brother-in-law’s garden 5 minutes from Exeter runway, G-DAAS MBB117 and DHC6 G-CBML were added to the book. Home today, and the star was Dash 8, N989HA crossing the Thames at 24,000 ft, a long way from Bagram!

Looks like yesterday was the last day day of summer, lovely weather for most of the day and a few in the book, best of which by far was C750 C6-TEN which sailed by to my north heading west. This is the first "proper" C6 I've ever seen, I do have four more on their register but these were all seen as G-**** or HB-*** years ago.
Working around Somerset today so hoping to call in at Westonzoyland assuming of course that it's open.

Another few days at a sundrenched Mildy, spent yest 22nd trying to clear up needed F15s and wandering around the Warren picking off the AV F16s, 10 so far. Mildenhall was very active with based KC135s C130s and V22 with numerous circuits and go arounds, G-CLEZ R44 crossed the field mid afternoon. The evening saw a couple more V22s come out to play 0064 and 0065 which did a very low departure in the dark, first time I've seen the green lights on the props at night, unforgettable sight seeing 4 green discs disappearing into the night. 23rd....sun drenched mildy turned into water drenched mildy with 3000m viz overnight. Early morning 7.15 arrivals of C17 RCH617 04-4130 and SHUCK80 83-0009 brightened the morning up though.

Hi Jeff,
Glad you are having a good time up there. Those green lights are quite a thing to see - slightly spooky!!
If based MC-130J 13-5776 had not gone off to the East, I would have come up for the visiting MC-130, but I'm not making a 350 mile round trip just for one (there are a few exceptions to that though!!).
Funnily enough, I made the E-3 at the 'Hall nine years ago tomorrow.

A couple of weeks ago Mrs S suggested we experiment with Dexter, our 10 month old puppy, by finding a ‘pet friendly’ hotel to see how we get on... Amazingly, at that very moment, an email offer arrived from Secret Escapes for a hotel in York, which Incredibly offers pet friendly rooms and also a really good deal for room, breakfast and evening meal all for a super price!!!
So that’s the build-up... So I said, ahh there’s an aircraft museum there that I’ve never been to - thinking, strike with a retaliatory salvo before she can gather her thoughts.... The response was ‘of course darling’.... Anyway, long story short off we went on the 16th - got 13 miles from home and Dexter emptied his stomach all over Jo... But from that point on, things just got better.... So here’s my log for the 2 night/3 day jaunt.
17th Sherburn-in-Elmet. Upon arrival, with Jo walking Dexter around the car park, I approached the Sherburn Aero Club office to see if I could gain access airside. Within 5 minutes a very kind gentleman arrived and off we went doing a full walk around all four hangars and apron. I’ll only show those potted.

So a really enjoyable hour or so spent spotting, all because Dex had been such a good boy sightseeing around York during the morning... Following day was my-time to visit Yorkshire Air Museum... Jo didn’t fancy the walk around so I only bought a ticket for myself (£12, and well worth it). However, when we arrived Jo saw all the aircraft dispersed around lots of grass areas which was perfect for Dexter... So a further £12 went into YAM’s kitty, and Jo thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours as did Dexter.

Following the museum we then drove back to home, in about 4.5 hours, where I managed to grab the following.
EI-GTJ A320 ‘Indigo’ OTT N622UP B747-8F Cathay Cargo ex LHR heading to CDG.
So a couple of nights away, had a super time, chalked off another museum, and Dex, overall, was a very good boy...
Cheers lads.
