Graham , re your CAM request . Have to looked at the Exeter area site , rw26 ? Someone called Ant seems to have some connection to ebay and the like and he sells all sorts of 'old' spotting books and magazines . I think he is one of the administrators . I shall try to find his selling contact . Chrisj

Afternoon Guys, A couple of months ago, someone put on a request for information to join a group that allowed downloads of old military aircraft magazines that had been digitized, was it BARG ? The reason I ask is, I was just having a search on the internet for something else and came across this advert for them :- bargdvd.co.uk/Might be of interest to our more military minded members..... Cheers Adrian

Adrian , That was the milspotters forum , a group on io . All of the monthly WLAG magazines and many of their publication , also monthlies from Prestwick , Anglia Aeronews , South End and Upper Heyford . ( I think thats all but may be others ) . All are free to down load . The early WLAG , and others , were typed and reproduced using a Gestnetna (?) as photo copying was not available and normal printing expensive , so quality is not high but they are useable . All are very welcome and available due to a lot of work by a few . It is , in my opinion , a pity that the likes of LAAS have not made their early monthlies available in one form or another because then we would have available early cover of both civil and military movements . Oh well !! Chrisj

Oh OK, thanks Chris, I wonder what the situation is with copyright re the early LAAS Magazines, as we have boxes of the early editions in the loft somewhere
Just a thought...
Cheers

Adrian , I think the none LAAS monthlies were able to be freely available because there were no copyright problems . LAAS on the other hand is still on going so there may be copyright rights . I and a few others have been asking for these to be made available for some time , all we get is some have been scanned , LAAS require copies from us so that they can be scanned , items will be published in the current magazines during lock down ( NOT) , They are too busy with production of yet another airline list book and I was told that i could find the magazines myself and scan them for LAAS but at no cost to LAAS ( who would possibly sell them ) ! So , yes there are problems with LAAS publications . Chrisj

Hi Chris, OK I'll park that idea for a minute, but what I am leaning towards is putting all the photographs and magazines in the loft onto my computer, so that is things like Air Britain, LAAS, Propliner, BARG etc etc, but everytime I go into the loft I find more photo's to scan and this all takes time.....
Cheers

I know the 'time' problem only too well Adrian ! I looked into scanning all of my photographs and negatives as well as slides some time back . It is another case of 'you pays your money and get what you paid for' . A bit of research and I bought a Canon Canoscan 9000F MkII . This is a flatbed scanner . The earlier version came with Photoshop but suffered with a conventional lamp which would overheat and shut down the scanner . I find it very good and easy to use but on a down side it will only scan 35mm and I think 120 size negatives/slides . Their software is Canon's 'My Garden' which has limited functions but any further picture manipulation can be done on other programs . I think I managed about sixteen thousand neg/slides scanned . I stopped when mil spotters produced their WLAG magazine down loads as I experimented with doing the same with some magazines . I found this very easy and had good reproductions but it was just a trial and may get picked up in the future - IF time permits . Then along came a problem ! An old contact had put my name forward to some Air Britain folk who were producing publications on Hatfield and Panshanger and wanted visitors logs as these were on my usual cycle run in the dark ages ! this through up a serious problem with my records of G- aircraft seen over the past sixty plus years . So now most time is spent digging out my old logs and re-listing all seen G- and checking types as my old system had a few which disappeared long before I took up the past time . Very rewarding it is too as here in Darkest damp North Devon seeing an aircraft is something of a luxury ! I do not know what equipment you have or intend , but should you get similar to my Canon and require help please contact me and I will try to assist if I can . Chrisj

Hi Chris
Well storm what's it's name pre-emptied me and blew some of our tiles off the roof, so as a result I have spent the whole day emptying the loft and moving all the boxes into my study, and trust me that's a lot of boxes....
Which LAAS do you want scanned in ??
Cheers
Adrian

Big thanks to Bob and you other chaps for the CAM info, unfortunately I was too late but never mind, there'll be another one coming along. Managed to get my 1963 Civil Aircraft Markings from the Amazon Market Place for about £2:40- it was immaculate with no marks-underlining at all apart from looking 50 plus years old -but well pleased-only purchased it as it was when I started spotting although I'm not 100% sure of that as it may have been 1962. Pleased with the price also as some of the same CAM's as you know are going for £10 plus on e-bay plus postage. Stay safe Bob

Adrian , Very sorry to hear of your storm damage . I hope it is 'fixable' without too much expense and trouble . Fixing the damage must be your first priority . Thank you for the offer of scans of LAAS magazines . You must be careful of copyright if making them available . What is your earliest and how do you propose making them available please ? I think maybe a reply by way of a message (top of 'home page') rather than a general post unless the scans are available to all ? Thanks again and be careful . Chris
