So work has at last started on the roundabout on the A281 . The siting of it means access to airfield will soon be via this and not up Stovolds Hill. The road to the roundabout from the airfield units is what used to be the runway on the Eastern end. The runway has been reduced by over 100mtrs but is still long enough for biz jets, another B.747 would also just be ok for landing. The new runway markings are in place. On a brighter note this week we have seen 20.6.22 G-CDST Balloon on Monday arr.21.30 21.6.22 G-RVCH VANS RV.8 ZJ 136/U MERLIN R.NAVY 22.6.22 HB-KKM SR.22T ARR. 15.15 FROM ISLE OF MAN (REF.FR24) STILL PRESENT 19.00 THIS EVENING WHEN I LEFT G-LEXS/G-IPJF/G-VIVE/G-LIKK/G-DOUN are regular chopper visitors.

So our first and maybe only biz jet visitor of 2023 is the usual G-LUBB on the 3rd January . The runway here has had 200 mtrs taken off so any larger biz jets are now unlikely .. The roundabout on the A281 is at last underway after 15 years in planning . Anyway G-LUBB arrived at 08.50am and only stayed about 15 minutes ..

I see from an aerial photo that the threshold as been displaced to the west end of the ORP so presently still at least 1500m to land on plus the grass but probably no more '747s.

So we don,t get many visitors these days . Getting slower as roundabout and new entrance to airfield from A281 is nearly complete. G-LUBB Citation still manages to get in and was noted on 30th MAY , and again this week on 7th August ..

So .. today (15th Nov.) we get a quick visit from G-LUBB arriving at 9.00am staying about 30 mins. I get the impression the pilot loves landing here with amazing approaches .. The runway is now 200 mtrs shorter but still long enough . We do get the various track days which render the runway unavailable.. Various helicopter movements with G-CMCL and G-IPGL COMMON. G-HAZZ visited 18.9.23 and 31.10.23. While i was working last night a Chinook was having fun using the runway. The new entrance is nearly ready but could be the new year before opening ..
