Just found this on the works intranet, reading between the lines it seems VS are indeed playing a game with registrations and aircraft names !
Our first aircraft (MSN 2018 / G-VJAZ) has been under wraps for the last few weeks since her maiden flight as she has been in the paint hangar having our livery applied. Late yesterday afternoon we had chance to inspect the final article.
They do say 'no news is good news' but in aircraft manufacturing that usually translates to 'no news is big surprise' and that has had me nervous over the weeks but after spending 4 hours reviewing every inch of her (including all the way to the top of the tail) we didn't need to worry too much.
The aircraft looks amazing, one of the best Airbus have produced for us, with great levels of gloss and very little orange peel. For the uninitiated, that is when the paint goes a little bumpy on the surface during application and looks like the skin of an orange, hence the name.
We wanted to get the post out so you had the first view as the spotters are waiting to catch a glimpse of her as she rolls out. More photos will follow for sure now the world will she the shipname of Billie Holiday. Dont believe what the internet tells you for registrations and ship names 😆
I have also included a few photos from Airbus as you can see some highlights of the 3 weeks process that goes into our unique and complex paint scheme. Airbus love to paint this livery as its a new challenge every time, no one likes painting regular white aircraft and our Andaro product is a real science to get just right.
The aircraft now returns to the flight line for further finishing and flight testing over the next couple of weeks. Given this is a complex machine there is a lot of process to go through on our Head of Version aircraft, and we will likely hit some bumps but the paint is not one as she looks ready to be our new flagship very soon.
