Hi Eddie
My first visit was 30/08/73 so large props were already thin on the ground. This visit gave me my first and only, Donaldson's (G-AYVG) and Court Line (G-AYOP).
Regards
John

Great shots Eddie. I have dim and distant memories of an early trip to LGW, probably around 68 or 69, when you could walk along some scrubby, waste land and be fairly close to proceedings. Long time ago though.

Stonking shots Bill, love the Capitol DC-8, there's an American Flyers 727 behind her which dates your shot well as I believe they ceased ops in 1971.

I used to go down to Gatwick a couple of times a month from 1968 through to around 1974 so the photos bring back a lot of memories. Used to be a very interesting mix of airliners, lights, biz jets and military passing through. Nearly always something of interest around. Seem to remember an England v Germany football match that brought in a couple of German F-28's and about 5 Modern Air Convair 990's. Also remember seeing a couple of exotic light aircraft which had been air freighted on and were then awaiting onward transport - XT-AAH Piper PA-22 which went down to Shoreham and then went on the U.K. Register and 6O-SAE a Cessna 180 which I think also went on the U.K. Register. Gatwick was a regular stopping off point for Canadian Armed Forces transports transiting to/from Germany, C-130's, Dakota's and CC-106's (military CL-44's) all noted. Will dig out some of my old logs and post some of my more interesting sightings. Ray

Saw both the lights too and so many of those biz were regular visitors. Love the IL14

Hi Guys,
I have an admission to make.... I think the shots of N141LM and SE-ERN weren't actually at LGW.... From memory I think SE-ERN may have been Le Bourget in 1968 and I saw the Jetstar also at LBG on 31/May 1969 (Paris Air Show week).... Also I didn't pot all of them at LGW... But here are my 'pot dates' for some of them;
VR-BDK - LGW 09.11.1969 D-CITO - LAP 06.12.1969 VH-WJD - Biggin Hill 17.12.1969 VH-ERX - LGW 06.12.1969 N1393 - LGW 04.10.1969 PK-ICB - LGW 26.01.1969 (PK-ICA on 18.01.1969) N902 - LGW 03.08.1969 N100P - LGW 04.10.1969 N205M - LGW 29.10.1969 HB-VBP LAP 08.11.1969 N6778X - LGW 18.10.1969 N920L - LGW 12.07.1969 11+03 - Le Bourget 05.06.1969 (Paris Air Show) N321Q - Orly 07.06.1969 OO-WTB - LAP 16.08.1969 OY-DNL - Le Bourget 12.12.1968 N671SR - Le Bourget 05.06.1969 (Paris Air Show) EC-BPL - LGW 31.07.1969
Can't locate the others right now - somewhere in my ADU pile of logs.... Should be finished by about 2019!!!
Cheers Lads.
Bill

I certainly wish I was able to have gone to LGW for all those IL18s! All the more reason to sign the petition to bring back a viewing terrace at these airports.
