Those were the days, Comets everywhere! Won't see that sort of activity at Lasham again, I suspect. Much skill and talent lost, but I hope those looking for work after the demise of ATC have been successful in their search.

Excellent Photo. The Gnat was apparently a joy to fly, it handled like a fighter. I can can say from bitter experience that it was a B.....D to work on. Everything was shoe horned into an incredibly small space and what ever was u/s was the furthest component away. I learnt a lot from that aircraft.

I tried getting into one at Valley; it was difficult even for me at just under 6 ft tall. At Halton one day, I nearly got to taxy one! They had a couple on the engine running base (training 'brats') and needed to get them back to the hangar. I was there with some other guys flying microlights and rather than shut down and tow them, they asked us if we would like to taxy them back. I was third place unfortunately!
