Dave , the Good Lads over at mil-spotters have been doing a very good job and all in their own time with the results freely available to all members . Too many years ago I had to throw my copies of SEAR due to a nomadic life of the services so these are quite a memory jogger . As far as i can find , so far 1975 to 86 have been downloaded / uploaded (?) . I think that the pre 1975 SEAR may be in short supply so may I ask ( off my own back ) that if anyone has any copies would they please contact mil-spotters so that they may be scanned ? This would help everyone . Thank you . I know it is a copyright issue but it is a pity that other group's magazines can not be scanned and available such as LAAS and GAS as early ones never see the light of day . I do not know what process is used for these pdf scans but would welcome enlightenment please as i and others may be able to use such a process . Thanks again . Chrisj

To follow on from my earlier post on mil-spotters scanning the old WLAG magazines - SEAR , A lot of progress has been made but copies of 1970 seem to be desperately required and possibly other earlier years . If anyone out there has ANY SEAR/WLAG magazines may I suggest that they contact mil-spotters.io ASAP ? These scans are available free to everyone and is a fantastic one off opportunity for the spotting/enthusiast community to come together and help each other . I think it is a great pity that other clubs/groups do not do the same but that is just my view . Thanks and get digging into those old boxes ! Chrisj

Adrian , I presume you are trying to join /get onto , mil-spotters ? Have you tried typing in main+owner@mil-spotters-forum.groups.io ? I think this is the one to join . You request to join , they get back to you (may be in a while ) . When you are a member you click messages to see what is going on . To the left is a menu , click subgroups and the SEAR scans are there , each year as a subgroup . You need to join each to access the SEAR but that is just a click to join and you are instantly a member for that subgroup . Then the left hand menu for that subgroup under files gives access to the SEAR . Note that only 1969 , 71 to 86 have so far been scanned so others are empty . Hope that helps . Chris

hi, in the main mil-spotters the owner says in message 274291 on 2nd Sept,
Only SEAR 1978 is available online at the moment, while we rationalize the online setup.
there is no need to subscribe to any year , all should be available to subscribers on the main list, Anyone who does will just be unsubscribed again.
As usual, this is being done by a few, so it will take time to achieve a full lissting. Your patience is requested.
and I've not seen any update on this...
stay safe, regards, dave...

Dave , I have been following this somewhat intently over the past week or so . Up until last evening scans of SEAR for 1969 & 71 to about 85 are available to members to download along with a number of other WLAG publications . Membership is free and easy and initial membership may take overnight . Once a member one goes to subgroups and 'joins' each . This is instant and files for that subgroup gives you the SEAR for that year . You must join each in order to be able to view/download each year of SEAR . As you say , this fantastic service is being provided by a few who give their time and effort freely . Chris

As of today , ALL years of SEAR now available to download but some are not very good quality because of age and print process used years ago . A very good job provided by a few to many ! Chris

Dave,
I used to be involved in Air Scotland and went on all their trips from 1976-1982 (could do with seeing them again as I never kept mine) and was hoping someone was going to answer your question about scanning the magazine.Whether the Brown paper ones would look great.
Yes Bill Semple and Dougie Graham would come down to ScATCC ,Atlantic House on a Sunday and sit in the conference room noting every flight plan down.

Graham, You need to join groups.io login to create an account ,which if you have Planebase or member of Souairport you may have alog in already(which I have been for a while).
I have just gone through my 4 years of logs from RAE Bedford (always 1st page) and as I was a BARG man have been surprised someone was filing details of all our flights inclideing the day we had 25 Tornado airfield attacks testing the JP233(not live dropping) and the have them all ....and it was ME reading them off !!!!!

hi Graham, sorry for late reply, as Michael says join groups.io lutonspotters is another one, then click on the subgroups, and join each of the subgroups or which ever you want by a click, then on the home age at the top left side click on your groups and they are listed, and to read them click off the list which you want... hope that makes sence, it is late... if not let me now.

Chaps, most likely me being a thickie but after I've logged in to groups.io, if I search for mil-spotters-forum I'm finding nothing. Can you enlighten an aging technophobe please?

hi Graham, from one technophobe to another, go to main+subscribe@mil-spotters-forum.groups.io to join, then it should show in "your groups" then as before click on subgroups, and click join each time you go to the different SEAR year... that's all I can say, as I was a member of mil-spotters before the groups changed to groups.io

Dave , Just sorted my SEAR downloads as I had caught them as they appeared and some had been rescanned for a better experience ! I think I took Air Scotland when I was up at Leuchars but like most of my magazines they were 'recycled' due to constant moves . I too recall HF for SELCALLS and lists of known tie ups . My HF was last used down at Culdrose , the night of the Pan Am tragedy . As I was working on the RAF Sea King unit I had various frequencies to hand . As soon as we heard on TV of a large aircraft crash up country , I tuned in to the SAR frequency . Quite a historic event caught as it took place . Listened for hours ! Now , as for other club magazines , well I would like to see the very early LAAS ones but they hold the copyright . I was asked to scan and dvd them but that is too big a task for one person and one has to locate the publications . Takes a lot of time as I am sure the mil-spotters chaps will tell . Chris

Hi Dave , I know what you mean ! Not sure what little task will be found when I finish painting the outside of the house !! Like to say 'Surviving on Flyovers 'as well but not had much down here in Chivenor Land . On the few days we had no rain/cloud , the blue sky was welcome but was very hazy which was not really of help . But thats how it is , nowt we can do but hope for better ..... I think we have a bit of an exercise late October so that may liven things up for a while . Still , now BARG dvd 1 is on it's way I have much to look at . Chris
