hi, just found this on you tube,
just look at the surrounding countryside/desert, and have these 3 just sitting there, forgotten... a B.58 0-50665, a B.52 0379 of AFSC, a test a/c for "Barrier Area Test Aircraft", the third broken up, signs of a fire. If whilst on a holiday beach somewhere, and i find a old bottle, and the genie pops out with 3 wishes, it will be to live in the US, a un-fillabe note book, and my last one a pen that never runs out. The last two because i'm old and stubby fingered, i don't trust these new fangled computers etc.
regards, dave...

Thanks for finding this Dave. All out on Rogers Dry Lake in the vast Edwards AFB range in California. The other B52 is 57-0119 an NB52E which was once in fairly good nick until blown up by the USAF following a Russian complaint under the SALT treaty that it appeared battle ready. RB52B 53-0379 is technically on the books of the USAF Museum but that was before it got into its present state. A bit further along Mercury Blvd off to the left as you are going north sits 53-2422 an NF101 Voodoo which is (was) fairly intact. I'll let you know Dave when my time machine has been perfected.

hi, thanks davebasing, do you happen to know what the "Barrier Area Tests" were for, i've tried but can't find anything, and the time machine idea sounds very good. I had a large family over there but time goes on, so not so many now, visited them 3 times, and managed a little spotting on 2 of them, but thats it for me as i'm passed my sell by date...but i manage with these youtube video's...
regards, dave...

The barrier tests were carried out at Edwards on the south runway to test various forms of barriers to stop aircraft overunning the runway. A number of different types of aircraft were deliberately run into these barriers to see what best stopped the aircraft with as little damage as possible. Rather like the net barriers the US Navy uses on its carriers. Can't even remember when my sell by date went past!

By the way the odd nose on the Hustler was added when it was used for the AIM-47 missile trials and the missile guidance system would not otherwise have fitted into the B58 as it was.

No problem Dave. While on the subject of Edwards AFB here’s a couple of shots I took from the control tower back in 1990 and one of their B52s (52-0008) that actually survived and has since been preserved on the north gate of the base having been retired in 2004. And a based Phantom for no other reason than I like them. The base area (including the range) covers a massive 420 square miles. It has no less than 18 runways, 3 paved and lit, the others marked out on the dry lake bed. 90-xz by dave tompkins, on Flickr 90-xw by dave tompkins, on Flickr 90-xy by dave tompkins, on Flickr 90-xq by dave tompkins, on Flickr 90-yd by dave tompkins, on Flickr

hi Dave, will you please put some extra hours in on that time machine... F.4's and B.52's were always my favorites of the later years,
