Morning Jeff,it's always been Saturday & Sunday but there is usually a fly in on the Bank Holiday Monday that's not connected to the Microlight Trade Fair.

Ah I see, I noticed there's a car show on the Monday for a £5 entry, is the Monday worth going to or does it depend on the weather.

As well as the vintage car show this year there is also a Vintage Aircraft Club and the Historic Army Aircraft Flight fly in and like all of the events it will be dependent on the weather to see what turns up,I'm going Saturday & Sunday but can't make Monday due to a family birthday do.

Since the early 1990s, the Mayday weekend consisted of the microlight trade fair on the Saturday & Sunday and the aero (& auto) jumble on the bank holiday Monday. I still have some event leaflets which show that things carried on that way until 2019 (trade fair dates given as 4th & 5th May, with 6th May being Aero jumble / classic vehicle day) There was an event programme produced for 2020, which showed that, had the pandemic not struck, then the two events would have been separated by a week. The given dates on that leaflet were: Microlight trade fair May 2nd & 3rd, and classic vehicle rally & fly-in May 10th. Of course, because of the pandemic, the only event to have actually happened that year was the New Year's day fly-in.

hi, can't make it this year, but when i was planning to the trains were not moving to micheldever station, it was bus from baseingstoke. So don't know if the station will be open, so the underpass to new rd. might not be available, so its a fair walk to the rail bridge then back the other side of the track, past new rd. and on to the airfield... Anyway hope the weather holds for all who are going, regards, dave...

I should have added to my previous post, that Popham events have always been at the mercy of the weather, though if it's classic cars on show, then maybe not as much as for aircraft. Depending on the willingness of owners to bring their prized cars out in poorer weather!

Yes the microlight fair is very much weather dependant . I have been keeping an eye on the Popham webcams because there are so many differing weather forecasts out there and with a long journey from not so sunny Devon , I do not want to make a wasted trip ! By the way , I personally feel that the RIAT team could learn a thing or two from the chaps at Popham . They have OAP entry reductions , No admin fee and provide the ticket at the time of booking ! Oh , and VERY reasonable prices ! ( Yes I know this event is not on the scale of RIAT ) I think this year I have payed less than last year too ! Chrisj

I haven't been for a few years now, Seend Beer Festival always seem to clash with Popham and seeing as it's only four miles away from home, with an almost doorstep to doorstep bus service for the inebriated, it wins hands down I'm afraid.

Just had a look at Popham Airfield site and the weather forecast for this saturday ( 4th ) . Pat cloud cover , temperature about what we have had lately , ten to fifteen degrees , wind reasonable . So all in all it looks like it could be a good day out BUT always check late Friday ! Chrisj

Not 100% Jeff but I would think so . If you were to buy on line now you could print off your ticket about ten minutes after paying . Also depending on 'One's' age , it is only four pounds for a one day OAP entry ticket ! Not much to loose if you change your mind or the weather changes it for you . Back to your question , I think last year people payed at the gate and a card machine was in use . Chrisj
