Just been looking at my old log for the Mildenhall Air Fete in 1982 and happened to flip the page to the very next day. I can't say that I remember it, but apparently I went to Gatwick and this is what I logged. Thought some of you may be interested.

What a great log Bob. Some great old names that are no longer with us and the aircraft they operated not least of all the B727 which tobthis day remains my favourite airliner. I visited LGW regularly in the 70s and 80s and it often threw up a surprise visitor or two. Keithh on here will remember a visit we made together in the 70s and as we were about to leave after a day's spotting, Trans International B727 N1727T arrived much to the delight and surprise of all. Great times.

hi, yes always looked forward to a visit to Gatwick, you honestly didn't know what may arrive, civ and military. One visit way back then I saw a Argus and a C.47 both Canadian forces, another time a Israeli AF KC-97 did two approaches...and the US airlines I'd only read about, apart from TWA and Pan Am at Heathrow. Happy days, regards, and a good, safe New Year, with blue skies and trails...

I remember N1727T and N1728T (which was the 1st one across) very well, Graham.
I was living in Ashford (just S of Heathrow) at the time. I woke up early one morning and put the airband radio on. At 04.45, "Trans International 728" checked in on 132.45 over WOD for DVR and on to Rhein-Main AB. Looked out the bedroom window and this lovely pink contrail and aircraft went overhead. Gorgeous sight on its transit into Europe for USAF charter.
I went down to Gatwick that day and, lo and behold, what should come in but......N1728T!!! Everyone else going mad and I was not amused.

Dave,
Back in the early '60s, you used to get a lot of RCAF goodies in there while Langar was still being used by them........Dakotas, Bristol Freighters, Lockheed 10s and Expediters. Then later the CAF Hercs, Yukons {CL-44s) and Cosmopolitans (Convair 440s) coming in from Germany.
I never did see an Israeli KC-97, though....(sigh).
Here's to a good 2018.
Cheers,
Bob
