must have been pre 90's then because G-CIVD has been around since at least 1994 lol I'm not sure exactly when they relaxed their rules, but I do remember when Aircraft Illustrated used to have a 'register Update' page (or part of a page) when the latest UK registrations were publicised and I used to see the phrase Registration not allocated against those ending 'VD', and even 'BO'. This was certainly the first half of the 1970s and before the 'out of sequence' / personalised reggie free for all of the late 70s onwards.

G-TCVD (at least) is in service, my first note as such over Basingstoke southbound yesterday.
