hi again, as a after thought to my post above, where do you start?, with either photo's or reg's… vets, modern a/c, military, anyone been? regards and bewildered... dave... Hi Dave amazing show- I’ve been twice, most recently in 2014 when we had three and a half days at the show. For the first three days we were there pretty much 7am until 7pm, logging and taking many photos (all of which are on the North America page) We logged something like 3700 across the 4 days... Day 1 Exhibition (think aeroexpo on steroids) , then home builds then “North Forty” (G.A) Day 2 Warbirds, finish homebuilds then more “North Forty” and far hangar area Day 3 Vintage and Classic, floatplane, ultralight, more G.A Day 4 G.A, biz park, wander through warbirds again, Basler Dakota conversion tour, museum. Then off to the lake for the nearly 100 floatplanes! Will definitely go back soon!! Cheers Phil

hi morning, donutt1964 and keefyboy thank you for the reminder and link to Oshkosh, I,ve had the webcam on a old pc from the 25th july, what sights, and the entertainment...Fords on pleasure flts, then the lights taking off in two's, two landing on the "skiny" runway the slow one first and the faster one over him!, "high wing over the highway waggle your wings, red nose low wing the same,-great waggle" then landing instructions, now that's ATC. Then the modern military, airliners and biz, oh for the lottery win.
regards, dave...

Hi Guys,
Apologies But I’ve only just seen this thread... I’m still out in the States (Minnesota, to be precise) and should get back to Blighty about August 12th.
I spent 4 days at the show and will post my logs once I’m back at the desk adding them to my ADU database. Done a rough count and I appear to have logged approximately 2000+ which initially I was quite pleased with. However, just been reading the EAA website and this year’s attendance figures makes me feel a little sick, and an inner feeling that I should have made a better effort!!
According to their reported numbers, over the 11 day show, Oshkosh recorded almost 20,000 movements and averaged 134 take off/landings per hour... Some 601,000 people attended, which I think is an astonishingly large number considering we barely had to wait more than 10-15 minutes to get in or out....
Anyway, I’m definitely going to do it again, no question... But will try to spend more time there next time.
Cheers Guys.
Bill

According to their reported numbers, over the 11 day show, Oshkosh recorded almost 20,000 movements and averaged 134 take off/landings per hour... Bill Hi Bill I’d love to know how many different aircraft are at Oshkosh over the week. 20,000 movements, presumably therefore 10,000 arrivals and 10,000 departures, but obviously there are many aircraft that arrive/depart multiple times. As above, I logged about 3700 in 4 days including walking and logging all the exhibition, homebuild, warbirds, classic, vintage, ultralights, museum, floatplanes, Basler Dakota tour, hangars, bizjets, as well as a massive proportion of the G.A area. Of course, aircraft are always arriving and departing and therefore missed and there was some of the G.A area we didn’t cover. Plus we weren’t there for the last few days of the week. But I would guess that the total amount of different aircraft on site must have been about 5000? ish !! Likewise, must go back! cheers Phil

Hi Phil,
Yeah, it’s an incredible thing and to have registered 3700 mate - is a massive achievement.
I think one of the potential ways to getting to see more would be to go with a small group so that you could cover a field all at once, take a line each and then take a good looksee to make sure you’ve seen them all... There were two of us and we did do most of the vintage area plus the camping site field close by, still took the two of us over 2.5 hours to cover it!!!!
Plus of course more days would help.... But you’re right, stuff comes and go’s all day, every day, some come back, some don’t - so unless you do the same sections every day heaven above only knows how many you missed... I’ll try to load some photos once I’m back as well as some logs - unless that’s too much for members to bear!!!
We’recurrently up On the North Shore of Lake Superior doing some R&R with our friends from Minneapolis. Hope to hit Duluth tomorrow and really hope to get an hour at the airport where there is a Cirrus plant. Only OTT’s up here, near the Canadian border, so have only logged about 50 in 3 days. We’ll be back into MSP by Sunday and then next week we have a couple of museums we’ll hopefully get to. Our friends live in Minnetonka and the westerly departures from MSP come very close, so have been able to log 20-30 a day but these are mainly Delta, Sun Country, American, United and Southwest....
I have targeted to reach 4000 new frames for 2018, I left the U.K. having reached just over 2000 YTD, so hopefully I’ll be getting close by the end of August... With China trip coming up in September (not a spotting one, but hope to do the Beijing aircraft museum) plus a couple of Airbus visits later in the year, one TLS the other to Hamburg, I trying my best....
Hope everyone’s seeing loads....
Bill

Evening Chaps,
Well I’ve finally returned from the Oshkosh show....
I’ve been trying to build the logs via ADU and have 90% completed the first day, sadly several mispoles or stuff not yet in ADU takes the shine off a bit, but if anyone is just mildly interested, I’ll load a copy if you like...
It’ll be quite long but it would give those of us who haven’t been an insight as to what Oshkosh can offer.
After attending the show for 4 days, myself and Paul (my mate from Minneapolis) ended up walking 30 miles... I have the blisters to prove it... Which, in the heat, was hard work. Those of you who have been before I whole heartedly endorse everything said...
Nevertheless, I wouldn’t have missed it, and as for the misses, armed with a credit card and accompanied by Paul’s wife, they had a shopping bonanza!!! She’s now considering letting me have a full week, next year!!!
If you get a chance boys, take it... You’re a long time dead!!!
Bill
