If you need to stay overnight at Gatwick before a flight, it's worth considering the BLOC HOTEL as it's built on the top of the South Terminal. The hotel entrance is inside the South Terminal right next to the departures security entrance.
We stayed here back in 2015 in room 746 (not one of the corner rooms) and I had to be virtually dragged out to check in for our early morning flight! I took lots of pictures (which seem to have gone awol for the moment) but this screen shot from their site, which is virtually the view we had, gives you an idea of what you can see.
Only certain rooms have a view of the stands and runway and the hotel site says "Runway views are available on request, subject to availability." In 2015 you could only request the runway view rooms by booking directly with the hotel and not via a third party booking site.
The rooms are listed HERE with the (pretty expensive) Runway Suite looking especially impressive!
