Bookings for Sywell are well advanced. To see which aircraft have booked an arrival slot, go to www.sywellaerodrome.co.uk and at the top right, just below the LAA logo, click on "rally slot bookings". Then choose the day you are interested in, click on "book" and below the booking form is a full list of slots booked for that day. I intend to go on the Saturday, of the 337 booked for that day I need 146, and there will also be the overnighters from Friday, the hangars (if access is allowed) and the static display so I hope for upwards of 200.
One disappointment is the foreign presence, only 7 booked for Saturday.

I've always gone for the three days in the past, somehow this year I just couldn't get any enthusiasm for the event and so I'm only going on the Saturday. With regards to Jerry's comments about the small total of foreigners booked,I was told a couple of years ago by a visiting pilot that in their opinion it's too late in the year for this event.

Just Friday for me this year. Would like to do Saturday as well but don’t want to push my luck with family commitments!!
In the past I’ve seen Bill in the cafe about 3ish...

Just a quick question, why was the rally moved to its current date in late August/early September which I agree seems far too late in the year. I well remember the first one I went to in 1998 at Cranfield, which was in early July if I remember correctly. I didn't do the Friday as, in my innocence, I thought it wouldn't be very busy being a weekday. So I turned up on the Saturday morning at about 8.30, paid my entrance fee, and walked in. To a newcomer like myself, I just stood there, mouth wide open, gobsmacked at the number of planes already parked up. And it carried on like that all day, until leaving at about 9 in the evening. I well remember all the Swedish and Swiss contingents and other foreigners arriving during the evening. I did the Sunday as well and in the 2 days made over 950.
Sadly this year will be nothing like that. Not only are the foreigners missing, but also very few choppers or flexwings compared with the old days. If all the ones booked in on Saturday turn up, I will make 25. Hardly worth getting out of bed for. But I'll be there.
Rant over.
Wilbur.

Yes, I left at 18.45 having logged over 500. Certainly the best LAA Friday I’ve seen for a few years.

Well I reckon I made at least 550 out of the 600+ today. Light aviation is not really my thing but I was well chuffed with today's haul. My first PFA rally was at Sywell back in I think 1971 when everything was G-A - similar number of aircraft as today IIRC. I've done the rally at Cranfield before but this was my first return to Sywell in over 40 years. Very relaxed and enjoyable though I did hit a wall and I thought I'm bored with this and how many more rows or aircaft have I got to go up and down before I can have a pint. Back to the main area and there were more new arrivals - confusing or what!
Nice little museum.
All in all a good day out but I'm not that desperate for numbers to make a full weekend of it.

Just reached my target today with 201 confirmed frames plus a few in military markings yet to be identified. Arrived at 09.30 just as the gates were opening and left at 13.45 by which time arrivals were at a trickle. Lots of overnights from Friday, took over an hour to walk the lines. Unfortunately the hangars were firmly locked with no lists of contents (unless there were windows could not see them anyway).
Called briefly at Luton both ways, mainly for the Wizz (made 4 plus a Vueling and the new easyJey G-EZGY), did not do a full recce of the biz areas but they were fairly thin on the ground. Made N1TF and N651XA Gulf 650, PH-CTH F.2000EX, N410M and 9H-VJN GLEX, OE-ISN Gulf 550.
