Hi alfred
No idea where the mound is but I just Googled "Hotel Ibis Madrid airport" and found a pretty good map showing the hotel's location. I tried to post the link but it won't work for some reason

Thanks, that is very kind of you, we are only staying one night and then we are flying on a Latam 787 to Frankfurt. There was an article about the 787 in Aviation News? that's where I got the idea.

Looking at the map (and assuming you mean the popular mound which overlooks the threshold of RW 14R - rather than by the cargo area which can be tricky security wise as you need to enter the cargo area first) its a fair old walk from the Ibis, I'd say considerably over a mile each way. If you have a look at a map, the Ibis is very close to the Avenida de Logrono which leads north to a roundabout with a restaurant on your left hand side then over a bridge across the main road to another roundabout. You will see the hill with a mast on the top ahead of you as you approach that second roundabout. To get to the track leading up the hill you will first need to cross a fairly busy - and fast - road. If short of time the Terminal 2 Cafe Mahoe may be your better bet until you get airside for your LATAM flight. There are no facilities at that mound by the way. Hope this helps. Enjoy.

I stayed in the hotel for one night in May. I walked to the mound and it took me 20-30 mins as I recall. You have some bits without pavement but it isn't a problem, just be careful. Good luck.

There is a map on the Scramble site I think with the walk marked. I walked back to the terminal after but that takes a bit longer.

Hello Keith, thanks for that, I may chance a walk along there, but I am always dubious about busy roads, nearly came to grief at Madeira airport once.As I said main reason is to fly on the Latam 787.This will be my third attempt to fly on a 787, lets hope it is third time lucky, although I have noted an A330 on that flight recently.I then have a day at Frankfurt and return Friday on a E 145, another new type for me. Thanks again for showing interest.

Just an update, perfectly good hotel, but we had quite a late arrival at Madrid and also a drop more San Miguel than usual so never made it to the mound. I have put a small report about Madrid airport on a different thread. Thanks again for responses.
