From a friend... Reported by the Irish Aviation Authority this morning is EJ-IOBN, an Embraer 190 corporate jet for Gain Jet Ireland. The new prefix EJ-, which was first mooted a year or so ago, will be followed by a sequence of 4 letters!
No, it's not 1st April!

I guess with only 3 letters after the EI and the amount of leasing company’s and Ryan Air buying what seems like 100 737s every year they were going to run out of variations at some point. Wonder why they didn’t just put 4 letters after the EI rather than go for a whole new prefix.?

Although it doesn’t seem to bother some countries, I think part of the reason is the risk of mistakes that could be caused by EI-xxxx four letters. ie. anywhere that EI-ABCx needs to be filled out, does it introduce the risk of mistaking it for the previously used EI-ABC ?!
Obvious that’s just an example registration and I’m not talking about spotters, but perhaps legal errors with Aircraft Registration, or in Flight planning... etc.
EJ- doesn’t seem as an attractive option as 2-xxxx or M-xxxx but someone should tell Martin-Baker that EJ-ECTS is now up for grabs!
