Found this bit of trivia The day has finally arrived. Back in February 1977 the last BOAC Speedbird tail, on B747-136 G-AWNC, entered the paint shop in TBK at LHR to be stripped and repainted in British Airways colours. Today, 42 years later, BOAC returns to the skies on B747-436 G-BYGC

Looks good and definitely brings back memories. I have to admit that I preferred the livery that was the one before this, but that is personal taste (and I don't think that the 747 ever wore it).
Incidentally, I see that they have left out the "last three" at the top of the tail.

Done a bit of digging re the last three as Bill mentioned it this morning as well. From looking at photos of the early deliveries it seems originally that the last 3 were not on the tails

I just saw G-BYGC fly past on finals for LHR on it's way back from New York and it looks splendid in the retro livery. It's great to see the Speedbird logo on a BA plane again.
