Graham, another hobby to indulge in,if you ever get the chance to go to Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International, park yourself on top of the Hibiscus parking garage and look right towards Port Everglades, there is a major freight line that runs round the end of the runway with quite a few trains per day.If you get bored with the planes and cruise ships then count the locomotives and trucks instead.

Come on Retired, you must realise, there are no emissions, when it's all for the great god PROFIT. But you and your hugely innefficient gas guzzling, poluting car need to be taxed, SOME MORE. Have fun Terry

Ah, got stuck at a level crossing coming away from fort lauderdale last year, 20 mins it took the train to pass and it wasn't at crawling speed either

A mate of mine from my driving days went to live in Australia and ended up driving Road Trains, pretty much all the way from the south to the north coast. Considering he had a 40(?) foot semi trailer behind the tractor unit, then two further 40ft trailers with dollies behind that, he always said you could NEVER afford to miss a turn because you stood NO CHANCE of ever turning around. OK, no chance to miss a turning once in the outback because the road was straight for 100's of miles but he regularly began or ended a trip in the suburbs of a city.
And all that weight, 120 tonnes or so was pulled with a 500hp Scania although they were fitted with special gearboxes to get the wheels rolling. Once moving, the biggest worry was stopping again.
