Sent a prior email for guide tour - but email received back from Castle Air was a refusal due to heavy engineering workload.

14.02.19    - Eaglescott   - Did not visit due to prior info. that the owner not spotter friendly.

16.02.19   - North Hill ( Gliding site ) - Did not visit due to heavy fog.

We visited but very foggy. Access  granted to enter at the two hangars that were open.

16.02.19    -  Westonzoyland
My wife started speaking to a gentleman but he ignored her and walked off.  I followed him into the office and requested access.  He was ignorant to both of us and took about four minutes to answer the question. Then all he said was SECURITY - NO.
We have been here in previous years and met decent people.   He did not mention that they had engine thefts previously, he just did not want to speak.

Les , nice report and a fair old trip . Eaglescott is not too far from where I live although not visited for some time . I always found full access gladly given and even a cupper offered in the club house . I think it is/was operated by a group of trustees and only open at weekends , not sure of present situation . Dunkeswel - always very friendly and hangar entry realy refused . Chrisj

I met a pilot at another airfield who gave me the advice.
I also read somewhere recently that £10.00 is requested to visit the hangar.

Nice report Les, always found Bodmin, Perranporth and Dunkeswell to be very spotter friendly so good to see that is still the case. I've called into St Merryn twice and never seen a thing, let alone anything that I might need. Only ever visited Westonzoyland once about 4 years ago and found them ultra friendly. As my visit was on a weekday most of the residents were shut up in their boxes but I was granted unaccompanied access to the flexwing hangar.

Re Eaglescott,their website does say a £10 hangar tour if you contact
them prior to the visit.

filair , thats is not welcome news for Eaglescott ! £10 is ( in my humble opinion) a bit steep for a look around the hangars . Is this controlled by the RIAT Barons Thanks for the info and report . These restrictions are a thing of the times probably not helped by a few who remove items such as engines . A shame but we have survived in the past . Chrisj

I remember asking for access at Swindon Redlands Farm at around the time that the thefts of the Rotax engines first started to make the news. The chap there was fine, and let me look around unaccompanied, at the end of it, a bloke with a notebook and pen isn't likely to have a set of spanners about his person and I'm sure that even for the people who do pinch the engines, you aren't going to do it in broad daylight. But the field managers do have a duty of care to their residents and I suppose if you put the boot on the other foot, if I owned a vintage car and it was kept in a garage with cars owned by several other people, I might feel a bit of concern knowing that strangers were being allowed inside to look at my car. A tenner is a bit steep though I have to admit, maybe it's to deter spotters anyway?
