From RIAT
Turkish F-4Es Confirmed!
You can imagine our delight when yesterday at 5:30pm our Head of Air Operations told us the great news that Turkey had confirmed with two F-4E Phantoms!
Turkey is one of the last bastions of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom and two of them will be parked in the static display of this year's Air Tattoo for visitors to see up close and chat to crews. Turkish Air Force Phantoms previously visited the Air Tattoo in 2006 and last year 111 Filo celebrated 60 years of the Phantom.Â
Cheers Mark

Jeff, Bill and I will be there Friday, probably arriving early and setting up base camp where we did last year at the far end of the runway.

Far left or far right as you face the runway? I will be wearing a USS Stenis baseball cap. Any way I will recognise you chaps?

Sorry RR, yes at the far left end as you face the runway, we had all the room we needed and regardless of which way the wind's blowing , it's great for landing/take off shots. I recall there were toilets within a couple of minutes' walk too.
I can't post photos of the three of us here as it would cause public outrage...;0)
Unless the forecast is awful, I'll be wearing shorts, t-shirt and white trainers and a dark green baseball cap. Jeff and Bill will most likely have their matching mankinis on if the weather's hot.

hi, i'm going Friday, so will keep a eye out, but there will be a lot of people to look at!!! not counting the young ladies. So if your not accosted by a grey bearded, bald headed feller, with a tan baseball cap with a USAF 70th pin, have a good day, and stay safe all... regards, dave...

Hi Dave
When we were there last year, we had loads of room and plenty of space along the crowd line, albeit there was no crowd at all where were stationed. If I recall, there was no one else within 50 yards either side of us

Yes Phil - for static. There is another one (GAF064 54+05) on its way right now (11.00), so watch out very soon Caught both A400s, plus the P8 en route Fairford, plus Hungarian AF 607 into Biggin Hill. Quite a military day from my garden. Forecast for my day at Fairford on Friday is now looking wet and wetter, but nothing will dampen the enthusiasm!

Here's wishing everyone a great time as we have our annual fix of heavy metal at Fairford over the coming days. I can't make Friday this year but hope those that do get a good mix of interesting VIP jets for the corporate functions. I'll be there Saturday with my grandson assuming my latest bout of gout has gone by then.
Let's hope the weather gods play ball and don't make it too difficult for each of us on the day.
Cheers Keith

Thanks Keith, been keeping an eye very firmly on the weather for Fairford and it's looking grim with heavy rain predicted from 10am onwards for most of the day. Let's hope the carparks don't turn to quagmires too....

Yes a quagmire was my other worry too for the Saturday but I always take the brown route from Malmesbury along the A4040 and usually end up parking on the concrete at the western end - this is by far the easiest route into Fairford. Sometimes it's all about timing as a couple of times I've ended up in a field but that's usually down to a stroppy traffic marshall trying to relieve the queue onto the concrete - not that there's ever much of a queue on the brown route at 8am!
PS: though my garden could do with a good watering - I'd be well happy if the rain stays off for the entire weekend for all of us!!

Well, if it wasn’t windy or raining, it was windy and raining! At least I met up with Jeff, Bill, Graham and Dylan. I called it a day at 13.50, by which time the only displays were the Harrier and Chinook. Then hit M25 in the Friday evening rush hour!
