Ryanair (FR, Dublin Int'l) Chief Marketing Officer, Kenny Jacobs, says his airline is now looking to begin flights out of the southeastern Dutch city of Lelystad, to compliment its planned operations out of Amsterdam.
"One scenario is that we will operate business routes from Amsterdam Schipol while Lelystad will focus more on tourist routes," Jacobs was quoted as saying by the Zakenreis Nieuws site.
The Netherlands' largest general aviation airport, Lelystad's runway and passenger terminal are currently being upgraded to allow for the operation of both A320 and B737 aircraft. The improved infrastructure is expected to lure more charter and budget carriers to the airport, which is to then act as a relief airport for Amsterdam.
Concerning talks with Amsterdam operator, Schiphol Group, which opened late last year, Jacobs said Ryanair was still pushing for a reduction in handling charges which, despite Schipol Group's offer of a 7% cut, are still perceived as being too high. Other outstanding issues include securing a turnaround-time limit of 25 minutes and access to Schipol's Pier H - home to rivals easyJet (U2, London Luton) and Norwegian (DY, Oslo Gardermoen).
Overall, Ryanair is looking to increase its Dutch market share which currently stands at just 4%, he said. This year, the LCC will base a third B737-800 out of Eindhoven to better cater to the city's growing business market.

Afternoon I know Ryanair are an Irish outfit but..................... Lelystad ! Lelystad isn't in the south of Holland it's north of Amsterdam, admittedly on the diametrically opposite side to Schiphol. Surely they mean Maastricht (or Beek) as it was. Lelystad is a GA field with admittedly good facilities, but the Aviodrome is based there, along with 3 or 4 other 'museums' or similar organisations. Not Ryanair territory at all. Whereas Maastricht is in the southeast has a moderate size terminal building, and has several repair/repaint companies on site, most certainly not Hollands largest G.A. airport, very few G.A aircraft based , plenty of Fokkers :-) stored. In case anyone isn't aware Eindhoven is 'Philips City' and I believe several big I.T. companies are there too. (Zakenreis Nieuws, translates to Business travel News) have fun Terry Terry

If it is true that Ryanair are going to fly there, then I fully recommend it for a visit to the Aviodrome. I'd post a link to my log and photos from there, only I can't bloody do that now, thanks to you know who!!!
