And this, according to PlaneBase, is what's based at Duxford, rather than what's listed as being in the museum collection. Loads of Spitfires in here, maybe someone can offer some help?

Just a small point for clarification and possible interest. The Plane Base Duxford Museum list provided by Graham shows Indian Air Force Hunter S581 (which is a forward fuselage only). However, it isn’t. When Hawkers bought back a number of Hunters in the 60s for onward sale to other air forces, some were converted from single to two seaters. This was the case with former Dutch Air Force Hunter F6 serial N-350 which Hawker’s re-acquired in 1964. The original single seat forward fuselage section was removed at Dunsfold and replaced with a newly constructed two seat section. The resulting two seater was then sold to the Indian Air Force as S581 and delivered in 1967 as a Mark T66D. Hawkers donated the unwanted cut off section of N-350 to the Science Museum and this subsequently ended up at Duxford. (Many other unwanted sections from other similarly converted Hunters ended up at R & J Coley’s yard in Hounslow along with a number of sectioned ex RAF Hunter F4s acquired by Hawker’s for spares). Thus the forward fuselage section at Duxford should actually be shown as from Dutch AF N-350. The confusion arises as databases track the history of an aircraft and this of course correctly records that N-350 became S581 (but the section of N-350 preserved at Duxford didn’t). Coley’s yard (not far from Heathrow) was a treasure trove in those distant days with great piles of both civil and military aircraft spanning many decades including uncompleted TSR2s complete with serial numbers already painted on. I was lucky to have had two full access visits there in the 60s. I only shot a few pictures as film and printing was an expensive drain on pocket money in those pre-digital days. A couple below, sorry about the quality but it was over 50 years ago! At least the Brabazon section was saved for a museum in later years. Coley’s reportedly bought the only flying Brabazon and the uncompleted Mark 2 for scrap for £10,000. I’ve always wondered who Daisy Griffiths was. Was she scrapped there too?? aaa (215) by dave tompkins, on Flickr IMG_8644 by dave tompkins, on Flickr

Morning Dave,
What were the logs on your two visits to the scrap yard near LHR? Would love to see them...
I’d heard of that place, back in the day, but never got round to going there, more’s the pity...
As to the databases, I use ADU and frequently use the ‘location report’ to get a feel of whether a visit is justifiable or not. But with all these things, the information is only as good as the person putting the stuff in... I really enjoy your clarity and accuracy, saved my bacon on many occasions, just wish I had your tenacity in keeping on top of it...
Unlike you, I do take ‘forward fuselages’ or cockpit sections, lots of people don’t and I fully appreciate and understand why - I’m forever having this debate with Deano on our frequent Airbus tours of Hamburg & Toulouse, my argument is this, if you saw a bit of a tail or nose sticking out of a hangar door - and you knew the identity - wouldn’t you take it. That’s a rhetorical question...
I suppose each to their own. I’m forever grateful for seeing any old frames, whole or partial, that would have ended up in a scrap yard like the one in Hounslow, lost forever...
By the way, that nose we saw in the hangar at Cazaux, coded 33-LD, any ideas what it is?? 😜😂
Cheers mate.
Bill

Thanks Bill. You said “I’m forever grateful for seeing any old frames, whole or partial, that would have ended up in a scrap yard like the one in Hounslow”. I feel that way whenever I look in the mirror!
I’ll have a safari into wilderness known as the loft and blow the 50 years worth of cobwebs off my old logs from Coley’s as you request.
Your nose of 33-LD at Cazaux is a Mirage F1C No 79 used as a travelling recruiting aid since its write off on 31 March 1993. As you say, I personally don’t do cockpits but saw it (complete & flying) at Waddington in August ‘86 along with No 100 which is now in the Brussels Museum. We all have our own rules for what is collectable and that’s perfectly fine for each of us (there is fortunately no rule book, nor should there be) and even my own rules are blatantly inconsistent!

That Brabazon section used to be hung on a wall in the Bristol Industrial Museum. It disappeared after they revamped and renamed the Museum to become the M-Shed. I've not noticed it in the new Filton Museum but I'm sure it's still lurking about somewhere.

Funnily enough, Dave, I saw Mirage F.1C 79 at Bentwaters Open Day 05/06/1982 when it was in the static. It was then coded 10-SK of EC.1/10.
Regarding Indian AF Hunters, in October 1966 I was lucky enough to have a school cadet force tour of the Hawker factory at Kingston where we saw 6x ex-RNLAF Hunters being prepared for the Chilean AF. Then we went on for a tour of Dunsfold to find five Indians (4x F.56A and 1x T.66D), 1x RJAF T.66B and 3 Iraqis (1x T.66A*** and 2x FGA.59As).
*** The Iraqi T.66A was 567 - 1st usage of serial (ex G-APUX and the crashed Belgian AF IF-19) - and had been returned from loan to the Iraqis.

Firstly many thanks to Graham for posting the list from PB, I appreciate it.
Secondly fascinated reading the posts/pictures about the scrap yard near LHR, brilliant I like you Bill take forward fuselages and have similar discussions when visiting locations such as XFW
As you say horses for courses, there are no rules, which is what I love about this hobby
