Sad news indeed Steve for one of my local fields but I imagine this has been on the cards for quite some time as it's been very noticeable on my last 5-6 visits to the field at how many regulars seem to have moved out to new homes. The large old wooden roofed hangar used to be rammed full of stuff, one by one they seem to have gone and not to another part of the field. Other than the issues with the people in the Shadow hangar which many of us have been subjected to over the years, I've always found it a very spotter friendly airfield and one I shall be sad to see go.

Will this include the museum? Have to agree with Graham always found this to be an enjoyable place to visit.

Called yesterday afternoon and OS seemed its normal self - no sign of mass desertions. Plenty of people watching the skydiving, but state of hangar roof shows where the money is needed.

If I recall, that hangar has been undergoing repairs now for at least 18 months, as said, it used to be rammed full of planes (and cars..)but as far as I know, apart from the shadow hangar, there is no other "accommodation" on the field. Most of the gyros relocated to Popham some while ago.

There was a very short piece on BBC Radio Wiltshire this morning stating that the airfield is to reopen for business and this will now include night flying. Evidently local residents - ie those in the new build houses - are up in arms about the decision!
