I only saw reference to this story on the Scottish News programme "The Nine" of the tragic death of American racing driver Jessi Combs.The video below is from 6 years ago in which she used a converted F-104 56-0763 which I believe she was tragically killed .

Great clips michael and a sad loss to the world of land speed record drivers. That dry lake bed was said to be 11 miles long, according to my simple maths, at 600mph, the car would cover that distance in 66 seconds which doesn't appear to leave much room for accelerating and decelerating.
