As of the 1st Jan 2020 it is now compulsory for all aircraft to show ADSB while flying in Europe, now this has been something that has been on the cards for quite a while now and Ive heard that certain sections can opt out ie BIZ and MIL but Ive not found out to what degree they can opt out. So scanning the SBS tonight I was pleasantly surprised to see a KC135 58-0113 tracking over LHR at 28k. I guess time will tell how much tracks but its got to be good for the hobby

Hi Jeff.. with GAS & AD lite now gone the additions will be a nightmare on the SBS to keep adding.. still gonna be well worth it..
Be even more of a bonus if it was full ADS-B.. Smudger.

Planebase by nature is a database, with updates at least twice a week which do allow you to update your SQB

Sorry for late reply, so my current SQB is 25k ish, as a new hex/reg is picked up by my box it populates my SQB file from the planebase database, and unknowns are stored in a separate coulm and are updated when a new update is run if of course they are in the update, most of the unknowns I pick up seem to be spurious ones, ie LHR Ground stations vehicles and TEL outputs. I'm currently at work with no access to my pc but later tonight I can have a look to see how many hex codes there are in the database

Hi, didn't have an issue downloading it, feeding your sightings into the planebase program results in only the aircraft you need being shown on screen (ie interested) They have a pretty good help section which seems to be constantly manned and a dedicated mailing group help

It seem the main SQB file isn't loaded onto my pc, only the ones my aerial has picked up. However anything new I pick up gets interrogated by a program called pblink3 which then draws on the main SQB database held on, I guess their servers.
Graham has used this planebase to link into plane plotter with the same results and I'm sure he say there was an SQB creator within it. I've never used this option though as the sbs creates its own

Hi Smudger, I don't run an SBS like Jeff, I use PlaneBase on my laptop to log all of my sightings but as Jeff says, it is linked to Plane Plotter mobile on my mobile phone, on which I have the settings to show only interested aircraft, i.e. those I haven't seen. The only slight disadvantage with that is that if you run the programme on "frames" mode like I do, then it won't show any scrapes as the programme knows you've already seen that frame. I also have Planebase mobile on my phone. Planebase mobile also allows me to log and email new sightings to my home address so if for example I'm away on holiday, I can send all the daily new sightings to my home email and then just pick them up when I get back home. There are two SQB creators, one which builds a SQB file for PlaneBase mobile, this means that when I'm out and about, I can enter a reg onto the programme to get an instant feedback as to whether I need it or not. PlaneBase mobile also allows access to fleets, type lists and a load more info. The second SQB builder builds a smaller sized file for use with Plane Plotter mobile, this is then copied and pasted to the Plane Plotter file on your mobile. It links with Planebase so it knows what you've seen and as such, populates your PlanePlotter mobile screen with only the frames you require. Finally, the actual PlaneBase main programme into which Jeff and I enter our sightings is updated regularly, usually twice a week, the prompts to download the updates come through automatically. The programmes for both PlanePlotter mobile and PlaneBase are written by Nic Storey which is why they work totally in harmony together and as Jeff has said, both have an excellent help forum should you have any issues. Not being techie minded, it did take a little to wrap my brain around it but it's second nature now and I wouldn't be without either. This is what I have on my laptop screen Smudger, the farthest right just opens up PlaneBase for logging, the middle one builds the SQB for PlaneBase mobile and the left one builds the SQB for PlanePlotter mobile 20200107_082722 by Graham Brown, on Flickr

Just to add, as Graham mentioned he is running the program in the frames option, my is running on the registration option so does show scrapes

Sorry for the late reply..
Thanks for the details and help gents.. Im looking to keep and add to my current sqb with what the aerial picks up like the old ADlite, I guess im over engineering this in my mind..
If any kind person wants to get an invite sent to join PB and a session of messenger or alike, then I would like to have a crack at the future as RZjets and airframes can only go so far.
Thanks, Martin.
