Every night in the same place - westwards I get to see this same bright object in the sky towards the west then seems to move northwards, would anyone happen to know what is may be ..?? tonite the moon was also in the same area just before sunset.. Pointing from Woking towards Farnborough.. Any help appreciated.. Smudger. Venus is known as the "Evening" and "Morning" star as it will appear at sunset and sunrise in roughly the same area of the sky as the moon. If it's a full moon, then the reflected brightness of the moon will completely mask Venus so it's always much more visible during a crescent phase.

Yes Venus it is
Also Look up when dark and the Bright Object above you is Jupiter you can see its Moons with a good pair of Bino`s going through Cancer

Believe it or not Smudger, I had the chance to study A Level Astronomy all those years ago at school, and I sat and passed the exam. Just think, I could have been the next Patrick Moore...;0)
