My Second Passion Trainspotting At Eastleigh Yesterday snapping a few freight trains when 70001 passed and seconds later Nosie & Platform Shook big cloud of Dust Amazing that everything stayed upright, then of course everything stops and Chaos begins my first LIVE derailment not that I would Recommend it...…. I bet you were chuffed to see that. Did it wake up any sleepers on the platform?

The photos ( not the derailment!)bring back lovely memories for me as an early teenager standing on the end of the platforms at Basingstoke and Reading General train spotting. I particularly remember the Warships and Westerns, which could be seen at both stations as I believe they were often used on passenger duties out of both Paddington and Waterloo. And don't even get me onto seeing my first Deltics at Kings Cross or touring Toton depot at Nottingham where the first ten Peaks were based D1-D10

Got a memory of one "Warship" in particular - D803 "Albion".
Going on holiday in 1960, we caught the Paddington - Penzance overnight train. Not that I knew much about it (being asleep), but apparently it broke down not long after departing Bath. We then had to wait for a "King" to be dispatched from Swindon to take over. I woke up at Exeter St. Davids to find our failed diesel sitting in a siding while they re-attached the "King" for the rest of our journey. We arrived in Penzance about 3 hours late.

Quite something to have been hauled by a King Bob. I believe they were the most powerful locos on the GWR?

No Change In Delays Then … Only Today 1M16 Inverness > Euston Hauled By 92020 Failed And 92023 To The Rescue Passed Crewe 430 Mins Late Already.....
