Chaps, is there a specific day when we all intend going to the show? Might seem a bit premature to be asking but it's only six weeks away and as there already appears to be quite a few of us attending, it would be great to go when everyone else is going, see some old mates and meet some new ones too. Cheers

As long as the weather is good then Saturday is usually the best day. I go for as long as I can on the Saturday, then just a short visit on Sunday.

Aerojumble on the Mayday holiday Monday is very busy, given good weather. In the past I have logged 120+ visiting aircraft on a sunny day, with often quite a few different aircraft from your usual fly-in fare!

The aircraft types are more interesting on the Monday but it's usually the quietest day, and the day with less "new" aircraft.
I would like to do every day, but the wife does occasionally put her foot down if I disappear for the whole Bank Holiday weekend! So I usually only go on the Monday if the family are willing to come too- it's probably the most interesting day for a non-spotter!

So I usually only go on the Monday if the family are willing to come too- it's probably the most interesting day for a non-spotter! I can imagine! One year in the 1990s I did do all three days and by the end of that Monday I felt absolutely knackered ( and I was about 20 years younger then! ) So after that I rationed myself, preferring to be among the bigger stuff, I usually go on the Monday. Also because it's a bit less hectic, relatively speaking!!

No brainer for me Graham - always travel down to Southampton on the Friday to visit good friends of ours stay until Sunday I have Saturday to visit Popham and a few other airfields, whilst the wife goes out to the shops etc with our friends. (Food and beer later) Saturday can be very good or average. But virtually guaranteed a 150+ log. I am just finalising my trip now. If you live nearby which most the guys do you can visit all days- I think the Saturday ticket gets you in Sunday free but I maybe mistaken on that one. Happy Days Bob

I am planning on going Saturday. Arrive back from holiday mid-week but my wife has agreed to another night away, so have booked hotel near Heathrow.
Hope to meet a few people there.
I will be wearing a New Zealand baseball cap

BBC long range forecast is awful for next weekend, so probably be a heatwve then! Always have a back up Buster- I am making the 400 plus mile round trip to visit friends in Southampton anyway and will be there on Saturday rain or shine. Sunday is a possible washout but Monday looks better. I have other strips fields to visit in the event of the lack of visitors - but you are always guaranteed some new aircraft on show around the tents etc. Happy Days Bob

Just heard from the Popham facebook page that "official" opening time is 10am but that you will be allowed in earlier than that

Yes, gates do open early, I arrived at 09.15 and there were already quite a few people inside.
But very disappointing, and freezing cold! Arrivals were never more than a trickle, and by 11.30 had more or less dried up, by which time my fingers were going numb (I recommend gloves), so I decided it was time to leave.
Logged only 113, and that included residents so I doubt if I made much more than 30. That's a shame Jerry, let's hope tomorrow is better. Looks like being warmer but wetter. Think your second one down should be G-AMEN, Super Cub which is a resident

Thanks Graham, a few amendments to the log AMEH should be AMEN XCDRO should be CDRO PTPSI should be TPSL
Actually made 40 at Popham (but made 129 last year), plus 11 at Blackbushe and 6 at Farnborough, so not a completely wasted day.

That's a good haul for someone who's been spotting for years Jerry. As someone who has never visited the Micro Fayre, how is it all laid out? Cheers

One further correction to my list, I read G-CIAK from a nut on the engine of a Pegasus Quik in the static area without wings, (there was no registration plate in the cockpit) but this is not correct - can anyone confirm it was G-CIKA or give the correct reg?
Graham, you park in a field and pay at the entrance hut. The first area you come to is the bottom residents area, with rows of green hangars (mostly shut, each holding only one or two) and a few parked in the open. Go up the hill to the static area which stretches along the SW side of runway 03, with the autogyro section at the far end. Retrace your steps along 03, past the AN-2 HA-MKF to the clubhouse and hangars where most of the residents are parked. None of the hangars have windows, and several were locked. Unlike Sywell, no lists of contents on the doors. On the far side of 03 is the visitors area, there is a crossing point marked and access to this area is readily given. Today they were using 08 for landings and 03 for take-offs so until mid afternoon there should be no trouble in crossing.

Just got got back to the hotel after a very good day- Popham was disappointing but few went into the book only got there at 12 and stayed an hour - the hangars in the bottom field were a pain with the majority closed and spotter proof and most. The top, hangars were closed. Anyway I put plan B into effect with visits to Old Sarum and Museum, Thruxton, obviously Popham, Farnborough, Blackbushe, Odiham, and last but not least Lasham where I managed to get a tour of the Glider Heritage Museum with three spotters from London. Sorry did not meet up with anyone looked out for various descriptions but was negative-hopefully will be a bit better tomorrow although lots of rain expected tonight. Happy Days Bob
