Ahh, the days of eagerly anticipated new editions which then meant you spent all your spare from April till November underlining what you'd seen. I remember varying the colour ink I used every year ( how sad is that?). But for those of us using the likes of ADU and Plane Base, it's certainly made our hobby that much less time consuming
I know when I started spotting in 1968, there was no MAM, any one know when the first edition was published?

From these website
First published in the 1970s, Military Aircraft Markings has become an indispensable annual publication for any aircraft enthusiast, historian or student of military aviation.
At the heart of 'MAM' is the most complete listing of all aircraft of the UK Armed Forces--the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Army and associated units. For each entry the military serial, aircraft type, unit/operator and usual base is given. Further listings cover Ireland's military aircraft and historic aircraft in military markings.

In a way I do miss those days of underlining ah, those long nights in a darkened room surviving on black coffee, only break a potty break...kids used to ask the mrs "whens daddy coming home"
memories, or nightmares? but oh the joy after the last underline... regards,
dave...

Thing is Dave, the CAM only covered uk civil register and those airliners that were regular visitors to our shores as it still does. I had lots of extra books for all the stuff that wasn't in the CAM - biz jets, UK military, foreign military, airliners not in CAM, foreign GA and the like. These were ruled hardback notebooks religiously updated after every spotting trip. The military one had a page for each type- Lightning, Vulcan, Victor, Hunter, Harrier, etc. So.many GA types that they were just listed by type, regardless of country.

I still use Airline Fleets 2019 etc. The box alongside is so much quicker than underlining!
