Just thought I'd ask around to see if any of us have our fingers crossed for upcoming holidays or spotting trips? We've already had one holiday in late April cancelled this year but that was to North Cornwall and wouldn't have involved any spotting. We do have a trip to Rhodes booked for mid September with TUI and the messages on their website say (as you might expect...) that the holiday will go ahead but of course, that depends more upon whether our Greek friends are willing to let us in than whether TUI will fly us there.
I'm sure it has been, and continues to be a year of huge disappointments for many of us what with air shows cancelled and foreign travel restricted so does anyone have a trip booked, whether for this year or for next?

Hi Graham - Good luck with Rhodes. I was lucky to get my Sri Lankan trip in January/February before it all really kicked off. Planned European trips to the likes of Fresian Flag at Leeuwarden and the Bastille Day flypast in Paris evaporated (easyJet have still not provided a refund for myself and the Hon Bill Samuels for the former) and plans for a Stateside trip to take in AMARC again have had to be put on hold. With my son's May wedding in Maastricht cancelled another Dutch trip bit the dust, as has visits to the balcony of his Frankfurt flat right under the approach where I usually make shed loads. As a 737 captain based there he hasn't flown for some time other than in the sim. All my work related meetings in Brussels and around Europe which normally provide some spotting opportunities have turned into telephone/video conferences (never previously thought I'd speak to the European Commission in my pajamas). Even the family share in the Cessna 150 has gone unused this year. So the short answer is that I have the square root of bugger all by way of aeronautical plans for the rest of this year. Lets hope that 2021 will provide us all with more normal opportunities to pursue our hobby and enjoy some holiday time as well. With so many aircraft in store around the States a US trip will certainly be high on my 2021 list.

Thanks Dave, I was of course forgetting that we have members here who are directly involved in aviation, but it certainly sounds like you have come off rather badly in all of this. Postponed weddings must be awful considering how much planning goes into them.
We also have a cottage booked in Dorset in November so are hoping that we will be able to take that short trip. Rhodes is looking at best 50/50. We had to cancel last year's September Greek trip as one of our spaniels ruptured his cruciate ligament, and the ten week post op care regime went straight through the planned and paid for holiday in Zakynthos so we are hankering for our fix of Greece.

Managed to get my annual trip to the WEF in Zurich in January done but as you know Graham my trip to Japan in April was cancelled, nothing 100% planned at the moment although making plans for the WEF in 2021 and the EAA Airventure in Oshkosh in 2021 as well but that's it at the moment. The one good thing about this lockdown is that I've managed to get all of my logs & books upto date.

Indeed Dave, "every cloud"..and all that. I've managed to fill some long standing holes in old logs thanks to the members on here so not all has been lost.

Planning a UK mil bases bash as soon as we're allowed to share cars again and hotels and pubs reopen for accommodation. Need to get our afterburner fix! Cheers Mark

Was due to go to Lanzarote in May this year having moved it from last year, but we decided to bite the bullet due to Covid, and changed our holiday to Cyprus in June 2022. Also we are due to go to Austria in September on a coach trip with friends from Southampton, but I am not 100% about that one either, as we have to go through a few countries France, Belgium and Germany to get there. So that one may get moved as well. Happy Days and Stay Safe Bob

Call me a pessimist, but we have suspended our travel insurance for a year. Our next overseas trip will likely be back to the family in Australia, and I can’t see them welcoming all and sundry for many, many months.

Morning Bob, the good lady and I went to Kefalonia in 2017. We'd visited once before way back in 2004 and fell in love with the island so were long overdue a second visit. It's a biggish island with poor bus services, those services there are radiate from the capital town Argostoli so we decided to stay close to the town. The other half left the details to me, so I booked the Ammos apartments which claimed to be a short ride from the airport, so no costly transfers to shell out for.
"Short ride" was very much an understatement, the apartments overlooked Ammos beach which sits right on the southern threshold of the single runway, with inbounds going over the pool at around 300ft. "Did you know how close to the airport this place was?" she shouted as a Vueling B737 went over about an hour after we'd settled by the pool. I did have to confess that I did but fortunately, the apartments were lovely and the airport very quiet compared to the likes of Crete and Rhodes, so she did forgive me......eventually.....;0)

Hi Graham , not a dig, but how many drinks did you have on the flight over to Kefalonia to see a Vueling (all Airbus fleet) B737 go over your apartment.

Reference our trip to Austria, after a long discussion with our friends in Southampton- we agreed to re-schedule our holiday to 2022. So it will be a staycation in the UK for us in 2021. If there is anywhere left. Stay Safe Bob

Well, my company gave us external sales people the green light from tomorrow to start seeing customers again on a face to face basis as long as the customer was happy with that. It means I can start quick nip ins to all the fields I go past on my monthly travels which will be grand as like all you chaps, I've been nowhere since Feb 2020.
I now have Slough as a part of my area so the occasional hour at LHR wouldn't go amiss to catch up with some of the B- and HL- reg airliners that never come my way at home that I need so many of.
