While the cafe has been open for takeaways for a couple of weeks now, and it was buzzing during the recent hot weather, from the 4th of July the toilet will also be open.

Thanks for the info Jeff. I am planning a day out that way soon from Shropshire and breakfast at Blackbushe is always the first stop.

From Rob Belcher on Facebook
'If you don't know the bushe cafe is taking part in the government's eat out scheme so half price food and drinks mon-wed, plus a great view'
So with a large (2 sausage, 2 bacon, 1 egg, 1 hash brown, baked beans, tomato, 2 x slices of toast) costing from memory just under £4 you can't go wrong 😊

Enjoyed meeting up with everyone yesterday. Bacon bap and a tea for £2.50 made it even more enjoyable!

Getting something half price on the Gov scheme is ok, unless you are working then you need a letter off our lord to be able to eat out, as all the restaurant's etc are rammed with people on furlough or retired.

Several of us met at Blackbushe and decided we would have breakfast there. I had no idea until I had ordered and asked to pay that the cafe was participating in the government "half price" scheme. I had a large breakfast which cost me £3.50 instead of £7. Do I feel guilty? - not in the least. I've paid into the system for 47 years so far during which time I have paid a vast amount of tax and national insurance, the only time I've had "something back" is when I had two small ops this year courtesy of the NHS. I've never had a day out of work in 47 years so if anyone feels that costing the Government three and a half quid for a breakfast is in someway reprehensible, then we will have to agree to disagree.

As a retiree with a similar work record, I concur. If I can’t get a little something back now, I never will!

Rant over Graham- I was only saying that the only way you can get a half price meal during August on the Gov's scheme is if you are on Furlough or retired- or sadly have lost your job- if you work you have no chance what's so ever in restaurant's etc. The Blackbushe Cafe is not exactly a restaurant. My wife tried this morning to try and get in a local pub/restaurant for her and her friends for next week for a meal -ALL three work- but sadly the pub was booked up fully until the end of the Gov's freebee. Did not want to upset you, as you gave me a potted history of your work, hospital appointments etc and tax paid. We could all say that- however I will not make any further comments on this matter. Rant over- enjoy the weekend Regards AM

Guess it must depend on where you happen to live and how many restaurants/pubs in that area have signed up to the scheme. If only a few have done so locally then it will clearly be more difficult to get a table, but seemingly no such problems in this part of the world from my experience and those I've spoken to. My son and his good lady were visiting early last week and we had no trouble getting a short notice table for dinner for 5 people at our local and they still had several empty socially distanced tables when were there. Presume you must also be talking only about day time reservations since for evening meals it would seem to make no difference to one's ability to take advantage of the offer regardless of whether one was employed, retired or whatever.

David, Wife had a change of plan- she and her friends are now going for a meal on Thursday- surprisingly enough they could get in everywhere- plenty of table's available. I wonder why? AM

Probably because the half price scheme is only available Mon-Wed, on days/evenings when traditionally, eateries tend to be quiet after the weekend. Those still on furlough are seeing their incomes reduce now month on month as the government begins to gradually withdraw the scheme, essentially they're saying to employers, " take your staff back on as we are no longer topping up salaries". I was furloughed for two months and was lucky I was paid as normal by my firm who topped up the 80% provided by HMG to 100%.
But I'm sure the poor sods who are now wondering whether they'll ever go back to a job, or will end up on benefits are very glad for this opportunity to eat out cheap. But,it doesn't discriminate between those on furlough and those back in employment. The entire basis of this scheme is to get all people back into restaurants to kick start the industry before 1000's of businesses close forever.

I did know that Graham- but thanks for explaining it to me chapter and verse.
