form the website this morning
IT’S THE FIESTA BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT!
Balloons will take to the skies over Bristol this summer and our nightglow will take place online, but there will not be event at Ashton Court.
In order to adhere to the governmental guidelines around social distancing, the 2020 edition of Bristol International Balloon Fiesta cannot take place as normal.
Instead we’re bringing you the inaugural Fiesta Flypast, which will see iconic balloons flying over the city on one morning to be selected between 1-14 August.
We are inviting Bristolians to watch the balloons from the safety of their own doorsteps and gardens. Social distancing means we absolutely cannot gather in parks or Bristol’s open spaces or invite our audiences to see the balloons take off or land, to protect our pilots and the public.
We have also teamed up with BBC Radio Bristol for another lockdown treat, in the form of a virtual nightglow, staged with extra special additions and a soundtrack produced to lift the spirits of the city on Saturday 8th August.
Anyone who has already purchased car parking for the event please go to our ticketing page for full details.

Hi all
Decision on Longleat expected in the next few days - impression I got was that this may go ahead still? Some UK events later in the year are also provisionally still on. It I guess some of these may get cancelled too.
Finally, if you need your balloon fix and don’t mind travelling there are still a handful of events going ahead in Europe including the a French National Champs in August along with couple of events in Austria in September.

Hoping something can be done at Longleat but doubt it’ll be the same as usual even by September. The safari park is open and the event is still on for now (as Colin says, the organisers have said announcement at beginning of July...) But if any social distancing is still in place, I don’t see how they can allow a crowd to gather for a balloon event.
With my trip to Slovenia for the world championships cancelled, I’ve decided against travelling abroad this year... will wait until things begin to normalise a little. Will try and make up for it next year- perhaps Chateau D’Oex if a second spike hasn’t written everything off again!

I still have my flights to Slovenia but EasyJet aren’t even flying there at the moment. If they start I might go anyway. The last balloon I saw was in January 😟

The last balloon I saw was in January 😟 We have a good friend in SE Slovenia and visit about once a year. Even if no balloons, its a lovely country to visit particularly the western part (more mountainous). Bled has a nice little airport where I flew from in this Cessna a few visits ago. Couple of AN2s based there. Lake Bled is very nice and if you do visit Bled make a visit to the Brown Bear Cafe in the town, best cream cakes anywhere! Small military museum with a few aircraft down at Pivka which I reported on AFA in 2018. 97-03 by dave tompkins, on Flickr 97-05 by dave tompkins, on Flickr IMG_4340 by dave tompkins, on Flickr

Hi all
i also booked tickets with easyJet but to Vienna with the plan to head south, however have now changed these to go to Geneva in August to do the French Champs at Arc et Senans which is shaping up nicely with 35 booked for the champs and around 15-20 fiesta flying.
I have also not seen a balloon since Mondovi in January but with ride balloons now also able to operate in the U.K. hope to see a few in the coming months.

A couple of hangars were closed so could have been inside, I suppose. But yes, Bled and Bohinj are stunning places to visit if you go!
