Well, here we all are, six months after lockdown was initiated in March, a year so far of being able to do virtually nothing other than stay at home yet the year is flashing by and we all have pristine gardens and freshly redecorated homes.
I've had two months of furlough and two cancelled holidays, a bit off our usual aviation theme but how has this all affected you chaps during these unprecedented times?

Hi Graham, would have to agree about the garden,it's never looked so good.Having retired nearly 8 years ago,the lockdown hasn't been too much of a burden other than not going to football, darts etc.Have obviously done shed loads of spotting from home but have been to Heathrow once,Popham twice and Blackbushe 3 times plus a little trip out to Ipsden-Chiltern Park a couple of weeks ago having complied with the social distancing advice on all occassions.
All logs upto date apart from the last three days.
Have met up with son & daughter and their respective other halves for some meals which we've been able to have in the garden so all in all not too bad at all.
Someone I know did mention to me in Sainsbury's the other day that it will soon be Christmas to which my reply ended in off.
I think we have all coped really well but having a wife who works for the NHS and a daughter who is a dispenser in our local pharmacy I'm maybe more wary of the current situation.
Stay safe everyone.

Hi Dave, yes it must be worrying to have two ladies in your family who are at the sharp end, bless 'em for helping us all through this. I was lucky that Caroline was furloughed for the same nine weeks as I was, so at least we had each other for company. We have the pooches, so we were able to get out every day for a long walk. I remember driving up to Roundway Hill when the lockdown first came in, it's three miles from home and in the middle of nowhere. We were just getting out of the car when a copper pulled up in a van and told us that we should go home as it wasn't an essential journey. We said that we were of no threat to anyone up here, and that apart from his, there wasn't another car or human in sight.
He did agree with us, said "carry on", walked back to his van and let an Alsation the size of a donkey out of the back. Maybe he wanted the place all to himself who knows?

4 months of furlough so far- quite possibly another 2 to go! Lots of DIY, home-schooling of the kids and getting the logs more up to date than they’ve ever been! Counting myself very lucky so far- will see what happens with the job in the future...
Only started going out recently- visits to parent’s garden, in-laws garden... that at least meant a trip to nearby Cranwell and Barkston Heath as well as Oxford and Luton on the way there or back. A couple of days camping in Devon replaced a planned trip to Cyprus.
Then today, my mate I both drove around several airfields (in our own cars!) and sat outside the AV8 for lunch. Was the first real socialising I’ve done for months. Visited Membury, Staverton, Kemble, Brize Norton, Oxford, Weston-on-the-Green, Hinton-in-the-Hedges, Turweston then I left him and I went to Elstree. Some of these places I hadn’t been to for years. Before we met at Staverton at 9.30, my mate had left Derby, gone to Birmingham, Cardiff and St Athan too!
Will post logs over next few days.
Hopefully a trip to Shawbury and a first ever spotting trip to Valley this coming week.

The only comment I'll make is that it has been very hard for me during the four and a half months of shielding., however on a brighter note.......
At long last, Alaskan ANG C-17A 98-0051 as "RCH233" came over by the Southern routing early afternoon. Yeah, yeah...my 6th this year(!) and #196.

You know it is not your day (even though it is my birthday!) when you see the C17 you don’t need, but can’t find the following one you do need, then 2 Delta A350s elude you because of cloud. Oh well!

Interesting likely final pot of the day. Silkway IL76 4K-AZ101 has just flown over Hertfordshire and Essex. It was trailing at FL270, but the trail had vanished by the time it reached FL300. Do they typically trail at lower levels than Western aircraft and engines?
