This was my first visit to Valley in 39 years spotting (although I think I visited on a family holiday when I was about 4). We arrived about midday and stayed until 18.00- there was still flying at this time. Then we headed off to our campsite. Viewing is good- we used the viewing area briefly, then the rocks at the end of Runway 13 where aircraft were landing and taking off right in front of us. Lastly a walk along the beach and sand dunes allowed a view across the airfield from the west side and into the Texan hangar.

Arrived at 08.30, hoping to be there for the start of flying. Walked down the beach in bright sunshine, then minutes later the airfield had disappeared in fog! We hung about until just after 10 to see it clear and read off what was out. The only new ones from the previous day were a few Hawks-
XX203 /CF Hawk T.1 XX321 /CI Hawk T.1
ZK010 /FN Hawk T.2 ZK032 /FH Hawk T.2 along with the 12 T.2s that were seen the previous day (above)
Texans 324 and 328 were outside. Also Jupiter ZM501, Juno ZM518 outside. ZM532 could be seen in the hangar.

Hi Phil,
Believe that XX321 is correct for code CI. Well, it was on 19th June (reported on FC).

About 15 minutes from Valley (near our campsite)is Tacla Taid Transport museum. Outside is WV396 Hunter which I believe used to be the Valley gateguard.(I first saw it Yeovilton in 1982) IMG_0414 by Phil M, on Flickr

Lovely shots Phil thank you. I visited Valley in August 1977 but had already seen the Hunter at Yeovilton in 1971

Ha ha, I was 15, my Dad drove us down to Yeovilton, I'm thinking it must have been a show. He wasn't a spotter as such but he had worked for Kelvins in Basingstoke as a machmeter calibrator for Sea Vixens. Kelvins became Smiths Industries I believe. Is it still there?
