Good evening all
I have nothing to offer on the spotting front ( I live in Cornwall and the de-fault setting is rain) so I am using the time to finish compiling my Databases
This morning I received a rather large box from DHL, which came from MIG-Mapo in Moscow, after I sent them an e-mail asking for production details for the MIG-25 & 31
Inside were 6 blue folders containing the record cards for each Mig-25 & 31 that the factory had produced ( In Cyrillic unfortunately) along with 4 computer dvd's with the same data but in an excel format, this I was advised was so the factory could keep tabs on the airframe hours flown by each aircraft, and schedule maintenance accordingly.
Luckily I know a Russian lady who lives in Plymouth, who can translate the folders, the DVD's I ran through Google Translate, and all the con numbers, line numbers, first flight, customer etc all translated perfectly.
Give me a couple of days, and I will put the spreadsheets on the same place as the register I put before
Cheers
Adrian

Not a Spotting, but on Friday the 24th October 1947, a United Airlines Douglas DC-6, NC37510 C/No 42875 L/No 17 was destroyed 2.4 km's (1.5 mls) SE of the Bryce Canyon Airport, Utah whilst en-route Los Angeles (LAX/KLAX) to Chicago (Municipal)(MDW/KMDW) with the loss of 52 Lives
FROM ASN :-
PROBABLE CAUSE: "The combustion of gasoline which had entered the cabin heater air intake scoop from the No.3 alternate tank vent due to inadvertent overflow during the transfer of fuel from the No.4 alternate tank. The failure of the manufacturer and the Civil Aeronautics Administration to exercise full caution in the analysis of the fuel system of the DC-6 relative to proper location of fuel tank vents to provide non-hazardous location for fuel drainage, as required by existing regulations, and the insufficient attentiveness on the part of the manufacturer, the Civil Aeronautics Administration, and the air carriers to the procedures of fuel management employed by pilots operating DC-6 aircraft, were contributing factors."
This was the first Commercial Hull loss of a DC-6/7 Family Airframe, a sad day indeed
May they rest in peace
Adrian

Hi Adrian, goodness me, what a fantastic result! Looking forward to seeing the spreadsheets. Sorry if I've asked before but whereabouts in Cornwall do you live? I had the pleasure of living down there for about ten years, firstly in Torpoint and then I moved to Polperro. All seems a very long time ago now and despite the aviation desert, I'd move back tomorrow

Thanks Adrian, I know it well, I had a pal who lived at Botus Fleming. When my first daughter was born in 1981, and we lived at Torpoint, I remember being at the hospital waiting for events to unfold, got talking to a chap who was in a similar situation to me, and he turned out to be the landlord of the Crooked Billet pub at Trematon. I remember his daughter was born about half an hour before mine was, he was elated and brought her out to say hello to me (not literally of course..). She will be 39 on December 18th as will my daughter, I often think about the chap and his daughter and wonder how they are. Great memories.

Hi Graham The Crooked Inn at Trematon ? (known locally as "The Animal Farm") I know it well, before all this covid, we regularly had Sunday Lunch there, great food....
The pubs around here are really being hit bad, we had a big pub / Restaurant just up the road called the Cardinals at Hatt, they also had holiday chalets on site, it never re-opened after the first lockdown, one of my neighbours was a bar-maid in there, luckily she found a new job in the Weary Friar at Pillaton.
Cheers
Adrian
PS it's nicknamed the animal farm because a couple of years ago, they used to have goats, ducks, cats, dogs you name it, and it was nothing out of the ordinary in the summer for them to wonder in and out of the pub !! I think the local council got wind of it, and now the goats and ducks are in a pen by the pub entrance

Thanks Adrian, I used to have a customer on the Parkway industrial estate in Saltash, it was a few years ago and I don't recall the company's name but they were bought out by a really nice chap whose surname was Peck, and he moved the business to a brand new building and site just off the Looe road. It's down a steep concrete drive from the road, in the middle of nowhere really before you drop down the steep hill into Hessenford

Been meaning to post earlier but at the same time that Bill Samuels was enjoying himself in northern Germany I was a bit further south visiting my son in Frankfurt. Main purpose was for us to do Ramstein and the Italian Air Force deployment at Norvenich. Ramstein produced the usual clutch of USAF transports, 10 C17s (including needed Hawaii machine 05-5153), 3 C5s, 9 of the based C130Js (plus the instructional C130H), a single C21, a Navy C26 from Naples (photo below actually by my son who was quicker to the fence than me) and E3 75-0558 which was tech having suffered a number 1 engine surge. Nice surprise was an Oregon Army National Guard Chinook which had arrived with 4 others in a C5 to reinforce the CAB deployment. DSC_0457 by dave tompkins, on Flickr IMG_0810 by dave tompkins, on Flickr From there we made the short trip to Saarbrucken where a forest of stored turboprops was disappointingly found to include no less than 19 FlyBe Dash 8s (a twentieth, JEDM, was inbound from Exeter as we left). Of more interest were 4 stored ATRs (including 2 ex Passadero and one ex Trans Asia) and an ex Adria Canadair RJ now carrying a 2-. DSC_0498 by dave tompkins, on Flickr Then next day to the German Eurofighter base at Norvenich which was hosting the Italians with 6 Tornados, 4 Eurofighters and a pair of AMX. Recent re-equipment of the based squadron with primarily later build aircraft meant I needed 13 of the based Typhoons which we saw. The base is also used for training approaches by police and ambulance helicopters and it was also nice to see one of the based Search & Rescue Hueys flying. A trip next spring may be in order (Covid permitting) as runway work at Buchel sees their Tornados temporarily relocating to Norvenich. The fuselage of Jetstream D-CNRZ remains in use as a training aid. IMG_1021 by dave tompkins, on Flickr IMG_1023 by dave tompkins, on Flickr IMG_1027 by dave tompkins, on Flickr Dusseldorf was relatively quiet, EMB135 N135SG still remains stored after some 10 years there. Cologne-Bonn produced a number of Eurowings and WDL machines stored together with former German AF Challenger C5-AFT (ex 12+03). As usual, Frankfurt itself as usual added a fair number to the log and had large numbers of stored Luthansa machines (including this taped up A320) which are clearly going nowhere soon. The northern runway is closed and lined with Lufthansa A330 & 340s while the A380s and other Airbus’ are mainly on the far side from the main terminal. IMG_1119 by dave tompkins, on Flickr
