It's a bit of a long shot but can anyone identify this aircraft which may possibly be Russian? The picture was taken in 1941 at an exhibition in Helsinki and the partially obscured sign in front of the aircraft seems to refer to a flying school.

My uneducated guess would be a Blackburn Ripon, which could be converted to carry floats and about 25 were made under license in Finland. I stand to be corrected of course!

Thank you, graham ! After a bit of investigation I discovered that the last example of this plane is in the Päijät-Hämeen Ilmailumuseo in Finland and that it came in both land based and seaplane forms. I'll pass this onto the owner of the picture, the little girl in the romper suit who is now 80 years old!

You're welcome foxfire, it was a guess based on that radial engine, the undercarriage struts and that they were produced in Finland

graham, I've passed the information onto my friend and suggested she send the picture to the museum as they're likely to be very interested - and will definitely identify the aircraft!
