Maybe then if the plans do materialise, they could build a terminal at Kemble seeing as so many are there already...

Why specifically the BA ones? What's wrong with those that KLM & Qantas have retired?

Frankly, if it’s taken Avatar 30 years to reach this point, I’d be pleasantly surprised (if only to see the BA frames put to further good use) to see them get airborne...
But they had only just been grounded and only temporarily taken out of service, thus still airworthy. Probably also configured in an acceptable way to match Avatar’s business model...
But who knows....

British operated and maintained airframes are highly regarded in the aviation industry and are more likely to attract potential buyers of airframes and spares.
One factor which may, however, cast a shadow is the RR powerplants - superb engines but not so favoured on the other side of the Atlantic. Questions of maintenance and ‘brand loyalty’ to US-manufacturing.

I think quite a few at Kemble have had their engines removed

Generally engines are leased and need to be returned to the owners for onward leasing to other airlines

I believe BA are selling the engines for idustrial use in the power generation trade I have been told there are at least ninety engines in the Heathrow work shop being prepared

I think the only one I noted with a full set was BYGE but that had only arrived a few days before so perhaps not surprising. CIVJ was I think the single engine one. CIVB however arrived there after my flight. The scrap area was rather full. Among the bigger stuff Cirrus N8163P can be seen in my shot below. IMG_0722 by dave tompkins, on Flickr

Such a great shame to see the two 727s languishing there, such a beautiful aircraft
