As reported by Russ (tarnish15) in the Heads Up section, ten Swiss Hornets have arrived at RAF Leeming today for their annual winter training exercise in the UK. They will depart on Friday 18th December 2020.
Serials are:- F/A-18C....J-5002, J-5014, J-5016, J-5017, J-5020, J-5021, J-5025 F/A-18D....J-5232, J-5233, J-5234
Owing to the current lockdown, it is not known where they have parked, but it is expected that (like last year) they will be in the Northern HAS area - and not viewable except when flying. The Viewing Area is the best place to view any action.
Flying will be during the afternoons (1400 - 1600) with (probably) up to two additional sorties in the evening (except Friday 4th December). There will be no weekend flying.
Runway 16/34 will be the only runway in use during the period of the exercise.
Please note that there will be no practice diversions or visiting aircraft at the base during the period of the exercise.
The Viewing Area is currently closed (unsurprisingly), but the base will issue an update on 2nd December which will take into account Government guidelines in force at the time for the local area.
