Anyhow, what's stopping us from wallowing in nostalgia. My first 3 LAAS trips to Yeovilton were in 1970/71 and 72 - coach trips that I seem to recall started from the now defunct Hounslow West Station on the Picadilly Line. I seem to recall we all got a bit excited passing what was RAF Andover, Thruxton and Boscombe Down en route but the sight of RN Phantoms lined up as we turned off the A303 will always be etched in my memory. On base there was the line up of Sea Vixens and I think a couple of Venoms - all of which took part in the mass flypast. Happy days!

Whilst on the subject of Yeovilton, I can recall a number of the Admin guys had a comprehensive tour of Yeovilton a couple of years back. The place you didn't report on was the Accident Investigation hangar which is right next to the FAA Museum. This is a really sad place that contains the wrecks of some 15 FAA planes that sadly ditched and cost a number of lives. Some were hauled up from the depths and each aircraft has a plinth with a potted history of events that led to the aircrafts demise - I was working on the Typhoon programme at the time and it was an educational experience, albeit very sad, for all of us.

Hi Keith, yes, a few of us went down on 7th June 2018 to do Cobham Hall and the RNHF hanger which Bill had very kindly written to seek permission to visit for. The lads then did the museum which I sat out as I'd only been in a few weeks prior to our trip.

The thing I will really miss about Yeovilton this year is my grandchildren missing the noise. To me it has always been the best day out - plenty for the kids, loads of classic cars and some serious scrumpy - I only ever had 2 honestly gov!! - in the morning!

Fortunately I have a degree in nostalgia, but it's not what it used to be. Just to remind keefyboy of the drenching he no doubt got at the 1972 Yeovilton show, here's a few I took that day. Was nice that the FAA museum put a number of exhibits on outside display. Let me know if you have any gaps in your log. 72-am by dave tompkins, on Flickr 72-an by dave tompkins, on Flickr 72-aq by dave tompkins, on Flickr 72-ao by dave tompkins, on Flickr 72-ap by dave tompkins, on Flickr 72-as by dave tompkins, on Flickr

The FN Crusaders were regulars at Yeovilton but I'm loving that classic Gannet shot!

Back in the day, I think it was the 140 bus we used to take from Heathrow to Northolt and occasionally there would be something interesting outside of the factory at Hayes.

Yes, Caroline came along with me to Yeovilton three years ago and loved every minute of it. It was a steaming hot day mind which always helps. It was the first time she'd ever been up close to so many planes, other than the "going on holiday A320s and B737s".

hi, i did aout 4 shows late 70-early 80's, it always was a bit of a trek from Newcastle under lyme, to get there for any length of time it was about 0130 Crewe to Cardiff, Cardiff to Yeovil Pen Mill, then the country walk into Yeovil for the bus to Yeovilton. I got there about 10ish if i've seen thru the mists of time right then returned from Pen Mill upto London then home about 2200... a very long day but has as been said a very good show always worthwhile. I do remember 1yr in a hangar display, a model makers club displayed and one chap had done a aircraft carrier with aircraft on the deck, all made from match-sticks (remember them), he said if i remember right 1 aircraft from 1 match... i remember missing about 3 items of the flying display talking to him.
stay safe, regards, dave...
