Phil, I sometimes pull up old logs from the late 60s and early 70s when I've nothing better to do and can't believe how the years, and decades have flown by.

Same with me Graham, to think that over 20 years have now passed since the current millennium began and people were panicking about the millennium bug, seems unreal. See a couple of my 2000 logs that don't seem like they're 20+ years old!
January 1st 2000: Renamed 'Millennium fly-in' for obvious reasons! Thankfully overnight rain cleared away early enough to allow the fly-in to take place. I noted 85 aircraft: Kitfox G-BWSN, BTVC, BTNR, BWAR; Cub G-BCPH, BVAF, BSNF; G109 G-SAMG; PA28 G-AVLF, BOJW, BSVM, BSKW, OIBO, BUTZ, BCJO, AVYR, BSXB; Ce120 G-BPHW; DH82 G-ANHK, AOET, AOIL, AGZZ, AHVU; Ce207 G-NJAG; Aeronca G-ADYS; Ce172 G-HILS, ASSS, PDSI, BHYD, BOJS; DR400 G-DUDZ; Ce182 G-JBRN, BKKN, XLTG; Jodel G-BXCG, BHSY, BAPR, BFBA, BWMB, AWWI; PA22 G-TJAY; Avid G-LORT, BWRC, BTRC, EFRY; Ce180 G-BTSM; Renegade G-MZIP; PA15 G-BDVA, BDVB; Aircamper G-BUCO; Luscombe G-KENM, BTCJ, BRUG; Ce150 G-BTGH; AA5 G-BFXW, BLFW; Husky G-ATCD; SE5 G-INNY, SEVA, BMDB; Vans G-RVIT; S6 G-MZMS, MZAH; DR400 G-BAEM; Auster G-AREI; PA38 G-BVLP; Rallye G-BFGS, BETO; Leopoldoff G-AYKS; Thruster G-MVHL, MVAJ; B121 G-AXEV; Safir G-HRLK; Shadow G-MNTP; P64 G-BMDP; VP1 G-BLWT; Yak 50 G-IVAR; Weightshift Micros G-MZAP, MYXF, MWEF, MZBA, BYRU, MZIU, MVGU, MZDD.
October 26th 2000: An afternoon of flying with Martin Harbor in the Blackbushe based Cessna 150E G-ATEF. This was the last Ce150 model to have the square tail fin. We flew from Blackbushe to Wycombe Air Park. Blackbushe: GA7 G-OOGA; Quickie G-KWKI; PA32RT G-BSUF; TB20 G-HOOD; Rutan G-EZOS; PA28 G-BMIW; PA38 G-SION WAP (Booker): Ce172 G-CURR, ENNK; DHC1 G-BXDN, HAPY, BXGO; Stampe G-AMPI; Spitfire G-IXCC; Nord G-ATBG; DH82 G-AFVE; R44 G-URUH; AS355 G-ORMA, XCEL, BPRI; Ce182 G-BYEM; Auster G-BDFH; Quickie G-KUTU; TB10 G-HALP; R22 G-BXXN, VMSL, LAIN, DELT; Robin G-BLGH; G109 G-BMCG; PA28 G-XENA. Gliders 'CFA' BGA1497; 'FZA' BGA3644. Not visited in G-ATEF was Farnborough (I suspect that would have been a tad pricey!) most likely I dropped in on the way home: SN601 EC-DQG; Be1900 F-HALS; F50 VP-CEF; F900 VP-BEH; LJ60 OY-LJF; Ce525 N33CJ; HS125 N863CE; Ce650 N220TW, 650J; Chally N604CE; Sabre N184PC; G4 N255GA, 780E.

Phil, I'm sure I've mentioned previously that I pretty much gave up full time spotting when I got wed for the first time in 1979 although I still went to as many shows as I was able to. I didn't start "full time" again until March 2013 and I can't believe that ten years have shot by since then.
I too remember sitting at home on December 31st 1999 watching Jools Holland's Hootananny waiting for Big Ben to chime in the new Millennium and like you, wondering whether we were indeed heading for the technological meltdown that some of the techies had predicted.

I wish I had old logs to look back on, having grown up pretty much at LHR, I just used to write anything needed on the back of the bus ticket that got me there, and then just underlined them in the CAM when I got home...

Chris, I'm sure I mentioned on here a good few years ago that like you, I'd mislaid all of my old logs from the early days when I'd spend most Saturdays at LHR. Then I paid a visit to see my dear old Mum who said, " ooohh, I have something that belongs to you", she went into her spare bedroom and emerged with a Brown & Polson Cornflour cardboard box full of old logs from the late 60s and 70s. They'd been in that box for something like 35 years under a pile of old blankets, all were in great condition and all completely readable.
The only thing they didn't have were dates although they did distinguish between "LAP" and GAP" as we called them back then. There were also logs from shows, some military, some civilian, plus OTT sightings made from home in Reading. Having no dates, which were required to log them onto PlaneBase which I've used since 2017, I had to invent some which is why I saw every BEA Trident and BOAC VC-10 at LHR on the same date!
It was like all my Christmasses coming along together.
