A couple of days on the South coast

I was asked to drop some friends at Goodwood racecourse for Glorious Goodwood so I decided to visit a few fields while I was down there. I dropped the guys at Goodwood and made my way to Shoreham where I had arranged a tour of the field. Unfortunately it was blowing a gale with showers and nothing was moving and most hangars were closed although I was shown around the main hangar. Types by those needed.

I moved on to Goodwood where there was a similar story of wind and rain and nothing happening. I did ask at Boultbee and a nice guy took me through to an office where I could see all the residents including two Spitfires.

Day 2 to follow shortly

Today I had to pick up one punter in Burgess Hill and go on to Goodwood. With the weather much improved, I went straight to Goodwood airfield where hangars were open and much more aircraft were out on the field. One of the Spitfires was doing pleasure flights along with a couple of Harvards.

I decided to pop over to Lee on the Solent where I only found one hangar open with only one of the occupants readable. There were a number parked around the field but not a lot to get excited about. A weightshift microlight emerged from a hangar on the far side and took off. Unusually, it had an enclosed cockpit and I wondered if our resident correspondent might have a clue to its identity.

I returned to Goodwood where there was plenty of action. I did a quick walk around and was looking into the club hangars when a pilot approached me and asked what I was doing. I explained and he offered to escort me around both hangars and let me take pictures. We stood chatting for ages after about all things aviation before it was time to go and pick up my racegoers. Many thanks to Richard,(G-TIMP), for his generous hospitality.

The weight shift is probably G-FFFA which has been operating from Lee recently.
