Hi Folks,
When it comes to exercises like Joint Warrior, there is a lot of focus on the bigger fields - but there are quite often some "Out of the way activities".
I have lived near all the major airports in the Scottish central belt in the past, but I also spent a long time living on the Isle of Skye - which although not known for high volumes of air traffic did get some unusual visits.
For most of the year the Military were missing, but at times like Joint Warrior they used to visit. There was Military traffic all year round, particularly low level - with C-130's and C-17's being regulars and the other low level visitors using the Skye bridge as a turning point. Rotary traffic was a little different, you never knew when they would visit.
Getting back to the out of the way activities, we regularly had several Merlins at Plocton during JW - where they would tie in the batch firing of the Stingray torpedos on the Raasay submarine ranges.
When I get the chance I'll post some of the photo's taken at these strips over the years.
Regards
Dave
