I think this sneaks into northern airfields- its slightly further north than Birmingham airport which I think was where our original boundary was drawn!
Anyway, this was my first ever visit to this airfield in just over 40 years spotting. As Jeff had said in a post a month or so ago, it does say Private on the gate, but having seen recent pictures on the internet from here, I thought I would make a polite request.
So I introduced myself to the first guy I came to - he was obviously working there- and I asked if it would be possible to have a look round, take some numbers/pictures….
He said “Sorry they don’t like people taking numbers here”.
I said ok, fair enough, any chance I could just walk to a point (about 10 yards away that would have allowed me to see a couple of aircraft better) for a quick peer, then back to the car?
He just repeated that “they don’t like people taking numbers here”.
So I said ok thanks and left. I had to walk past two closed hangars- one very solid, one with gaps that you could probably have seen through, but this obviously wasn’t the time for that!
There were 10 aircraft outside or in the open maintenance hangar- I read 9 of them (remembered them- didn’t write anything in front of them!)
I won’t post the list here as they’re obviously not keen on visitors- but there was nothing very exciting seen.
That said, I made 2 of the 9 so it wasn’t a waste of time either! (PM me if you’re really desperate for the log, but I’d suggest it’s not really worth it)
Maybe I just asked the wrong person, because as I say, there are photos on the internet from Little Snoring, taken just 2 weeks ago.
2 small hangers were under construction which will presumably make it even harder to see here!
So it’s taken me 40 years to go there and unless in the future there is an event on and I happen to be in the area, then I suspect that my first visit will also be my last!
