Hi all,
I have been having a problem with my lap top over the past few days, wondered if anyone else has experienced something similar.
Basically when I view my internet favourites most of the sites work fine but a few send me an error message saying
‘Your clock is ahead’ - A private connection to xxx.net can’t be established because your computer’s date and time (xxx) are incorrect.
NET:: ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID.
I have checked my system clock and it is correct, this is happening on a number of fairly random sites, e.g all my xx.group.io accounts but the google groups, proboards etc. are all fine. I cannot find any other clocks on my computer.
Strangely if I reset my computer clock to a few days back then all the error messages go away, the sites open up and display today’s info. Very odd, never had this before.
Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this on group.io or anywhere else and any suggestions as to how to fix it. Is this a problem with my computer or an internet provider delivery issue ?
I do not want to have to keep putting a false date in to view these sites although it’s a fix for the moment. BT is my internet provider.
Thanks for any comments and assistance,
Paul.

Hi Graham,
thanks for the link, have tried to resolve this but no luck. I'm running a very old laptop that runs windows XP, which google chrome no longer supports so I do not get any updates.
Spoke to my local computer shop and they said it probably happened due to a recent google chrome update and that they were unable to do anything with it. That said they offered me a second hand Lenovo that runs Windows 10 for a decent price. So i popped my old one in, they copied all my files and internet favourites across (although some failed to copy so I had to redo these) and the problem has now gone away.
I now have a much faster machine that is hopefully future proofed, assuming that windows 11 doesn't screw everything up !
I bought my old laptop in 2006 and its had a couple of small upgrades but has given 15 years of good service. I'll demote it to a backup and just for a bit of word processing and looking at DVDs
Cheers,

Hi All
This error should only occur when attempting to access a website address starting HTTPS:/, basically your system clock and the clock at the internet address need to be synched, because of the way HTTPS are encrypted, Google's latest cock up (ahem I mean upgrade) assumes all sites are now using HTTPS instead of the old HTTP
Regards
Adrian

Glad it's sorted out Paul. I wonder how long MS will continue to support W10 once W11 has been released?
Thanks for the explanation Adrian.
