Thanks Phil and Bob, she's absolutely fine, asymptomatic I believe is the term, her sore throat has gone and she's fighting fit other than she has the lurgy.

That's a bummer Graham, I have to test myself for work every Sunday, and I also do a test each Thursday before my wife has treatment in hospital. This week because we went to the brother in laws for Christmas day- tested Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and a further one today Monday- all thankfully negative. The problem you have even though you will of had all the jabs which I have had,you can still get it. Albeit the conspiracy theory brigade don't help, especially by not having the jabs. I wear my mask in work for the whole shift, as well as when I go into the shops. Have not been into a pub since last June, and since the wife has not been well, have not been to the football. Hopefully one day we will get back to some normality, or just have to live with it, like we do the flu. Anyway enough about my trials and tribulations, I hope your Missus get better soon. Onward and Upwards Bob Happy New Year Bob to you and your wife. Wish her well for a speedy recovery from all of us at AFA. Hopefully, 2022 will be a better year for all of us, we all certainly need a break from the last two years. All the best. Bill

Thanks Bill and all for your kind words- Jan is going to be ok, but has several more months of treatment before we can get back to some kind of normality- as a result early air events such as Pidley and Popham will have to take a hit, as well as giving my beloved blues a miss until her treatment is finished- cannot take any chances going to football. But she is worth it- the football and aircraft will still be there later in the year. But will still be looking out at the skies when we ever get some blue stuff, as it has been pants since Xmas Eve. Glad to hear from Dave Allum again- hope everything is ok with you mate. Look after yourselves and your nearest and dearest. Happy Days (Well it will be eventually) Bob

Best wishes to your Jan Bob and thanks for your wishes Dave, nice to hear from you. This time last year, which only seems like ten minutes ago, we were all saying that 2021 couldn't be any worse but what did we know? To some extent this year HAS been a little better, we managed a week down in Dorset, our first time away from home since September 2019 and most remaining restrictions were lifted in mid July. I'm sure Dave's good lady and daughter will correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I hear, this omicron variant whilst massively transmissible, doesn't seem to be as bad as the delta variant given that most of us old farts have had three jabs by now which appears to be keeping serious illness, deaths and hospital admissions way below what they were in January of this year.
Mr Whitty reckons this will be with us for a further 18 months but that "each six month period will be better than the previous". We have a Greek trip booked for September 2022, if that is cancelled then I think we will give up on foreign holidays for good.

Thanks Graham- We were due to go to Cyprus in June, but as a result of Jan's treatment we have moved it back to late September/October, if Mr Whitty is correct and it goes on for another 18 months, and more holidays are cancelled I'm afraid that lots of people will give up the ghost of Foreign holidays. The problems at the moment are that the Government and the Scientists are giving out mixed messages, you never know what to believe- the PM doesn't seem to have a clue, and neither does the Health Minister- but I suppose he has given everyone Christmas and New Year to enjoy themselves before introducing more restrictions- but I suppose it's wait and see- the Omicrom variant may have been made to be the worse to hit these shores to get more people to get the booster. To a certain extent it has worked but there are still a third of the population who have not had any jabs. We will just have to live with it, like the flu and have a booster jab each year. Happy Days Bob

Even the stats are misleading. Hospitalisations include those who go in with any injury or illness who happen to test positive on arrival, and those who go in negative, but catch it in hospital.
Those going into hospital are also unnecessarily high, as front line ambulance crews are not allowed to treat patients at home with simple drugs that would bring sats up to levels where they could be left at home. So in and out of hospital frustratingly for the ambulance crews.

Evening Guys,
Only made 3 scrapes today, at various times, when some blue stuff swept past…
OH-GLS PC-12 (Westbound to Bristol) G-RUKD B737 Ryanair (Northbound to MAN) N151SD Gulf 4SP (OTT Eastbound 14.47 over LHR)
As the year winds-down, so do the sightings…
Cheers.

Phil and Bob, the other aspect is this ridiculous, " died within 28 days of a positive test". The overriding majority of people who catch covid feel ropey for a day or three, then get well again. From what I hear, the longest amount of time to feel ropey without needing hospital treatment is about ten days after which the virus is repealed by your own defence systems. So where does this "28 day" thing come from?

Happy Days (Well it will be eventually) Bob Morning Bob,I'm slowly get back to normal following what I can only describe as a massive panic attack (I'm sure the medical people may have another word for it) which led to me not driving for a couple of months and also led me to losing interest in my main three hobbies ie aircraft, darts & football. The aircraft was the first to come back although the weather lately has been crap,I've been to a couple of Reading game's and I hope to start the darts up again this time next week. We as a family have had a lot of stressful moments these last few months and the GP said that he thought it was a situation waiting to happen, however now well on the mend and hope to contribute to the forum more often than I've done lately.

Hi Dave, Sorry to hear about you not being a 100% - I thought something was up when you stopped your posting, I know how you feel, I have been stressed out regarding Jan and her operations and subsequent treatment which is going on till the middle of May, don't like mentioning the C word (not Covid) but it is not nice, albeit my little soldier wife is taking it all in her stride. Glad you are on the way back and hopefully will see you around the airfields again later on in the year. Take care of yourself and also your family. Also if you ever need to talk to anyone, I am always at the end of the phone or the keyboard. Keep the Faith Bob

Thanks Chris, the good lady is still testing positive this morning despite having no symptoms whatsoever, whereas I've tested everyday and remain negative. There's no rhyme or reason to this virus. But it has well and truly scuppered our Festive season plans. We haven't seen the grandkids, been to the sales together or been able to have a few beers in our favourite boozer and had to cancel a planned meal out with friends.
Caroline said yesterday, "you go out and have a few on NYE" which was very kind of her, now have just found out that of the two pubs we use in town, one has had to close due to three staff members testing positive and the other, the owner Dave fell over yesterday, his knee has come up like a balloon, he can't stand up, so has been forced to close. Truly a totally crap Christmas.

Happy new year to you all, not that it sounds like much of a good one for some of you? Managed to make two today, D-AIXQ my last LH A350, and EI-DUZ A330 of Aer Lingus on a Veuling flight, thats a whole 7 overflights in December! Was going to Popham tomorrow but thats off, just football in the afternoon then.
Overall 2021 as better than last year, it couldn't have been worse really. My total was 1696, against just over 1000 last year. Did well on airliners(758) and biz (400), military was pathetic at 21 (prob mostly USAF C-17's?).
Lets hope 2022 gives us a full summer season? cheers Rob

Well packing my 2019-to-2021 Master log-book away for the year New master log prepared for 2022 - ended up with a very respectable 1045 cops for the year which was 320 more than my 725 in 2020, but well behind my 2019 total of 1505. The yearly total also includes scrapes- I just count registrations- lost too many a few years back when I just counted frames. Still have seen over six figures in frames. Today Friday- ended up being half decent with 5 going in the book:- The last two being a real bonus and great end to 2021 which on a personal note I will be glad to see the back off-:- EI-HGG- 737-8200M Ryanair STN-DUB LX-LXX- G650 Westbound G-TTNP- A320N BAW southbound 73-1581- C130H USAF (Axis 44) North to PIK 73-1594- C130H USAF (Axis 43) also PIK Just managed three trips out- Ragley Hall for the Balloons, Road trip to Staverton, Kemble, Oxford, Enstone, Wellesbourne and Oaksey Park plus unsuccessful visit to Tewksbury for the stored helicopters and The LAA Rally- plus several visits to LPL, Man AVP x3, Fishburn and Caernavon and Llanbedr. The latter three were whilst away on short breaks. That's it- I would just like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and hope you all and your families stay healthy and have a great 2022 unless Boris lobs us another hand grenade. Lets hope this time next year we won't be in the same boat. Now where is that beer. Happy Days Bob

Evening guys,
Well 2021 is finally behind us. Some will say good riddance (and I can completely understand that feeling) whilst others, and I do include myself in this thought, will simply chalk it up as one of the less enjoyable years of my existence.
Nevertheless, from a spotting view point it’s not been a great but it’s not been a disaster either. December bought me 69 new frames and 23 paint scrapes. My year-to-date figure concluded with 1,630 new frames and 676 paint scrapes… The corresponding figures at the end of December 2020 were; 1,444 new frames and 659 paint scrapes, so a modest improvement… 2020 was also the first year in 46 that I hadn’t travelled overseas (1975)… All things considered, COVID has an awful lot to answer for.
Meanwhile I’m looking forward to 2022 immensely. Possible trips to Hamburg and Toulouse for new Airbus’s, also to the USA with Oshkosh, Davis Montham (and one or two other places) on the wish list, and finally I really must get away with my lovely wife, preferably overseas….
Best of luck chaps for 2022, and beyond….
Bill
