Posting rather later than I would have liked due to getting a puncture on the bike that required a tube change and of course it started to rain as soon as I started to change it I may have missed some of these departing, so apologies for that. Is your name/handle a play on the Russian word for aeroplane? Samolot is actually the Polish word for "aircraft/plane" [hence the Avatar, a Polish An-2].. The Russian word is for aircraft is similar, it's Samolet

I learned Russian at school, but never Polish. Sorry for mixing my Eastern European languages!

I learned Russian at school, but never Polish. Sorry for mixing my Eastern European languages! No problem. Russian, that's quite unusual for a school in the UK [I'm assuming you went to school in the UK?]

Yes, they decided the top set in French would take O level a year early, then switch to Russian, whilst continuing with Latin and German! As a result I play with several languages... I can even ask for a discount in a Thai restaurant!

Over the years of visiting Greece, I've picked up a bit of Greek Phil, an insanely difficult language for English speakers to attempt to learn but its alphabet does bear some resemblance to the Russian alphabet so at least I have an idea of the sounds the Russian letters make even if I haven't the faintest idea of what they mean....;0)
