For anyone who has not yet visited the Science Museum collection of aircraft at Wroughton - you will be pleased to learn that the site will re-open to the public in 2004 but you will just have to be patient. Reopening of this notoriously difficult to access place is confirmed in the following video at about 7.00. The entire video is worth watching given its aviation flavour.
For my part, the last time I visited would have been around September 2005 which I'm pretty sure was just before it's complete closure to the public. At that time, the staff were a little afraid to move the TWA Connie for fear that it's undercarriage might collapse. Lets hope they've got that sorted. I'm absolutely convinced the information board under the Connie said that the Rolling Stones used this particular aircraft on one of their early US tours.
Cheers Keith

Hi Keith, I drive past several times a month and during 2018 I called in at the gatehouse and managed to get a very quick audience with a chap called Matt Moore who was the general manager I believe. He told me back then that the place was due to repoen to booked in guided groups in 2021 but of course, Covid put paid to all of that. I still have his phone number and will give him a ring over the next few days as even allowing for Covid, 2024 would seem a rather a long wait compared to 2021.

Remember going around Wroughton in I think the 1980's on a trip with Air Britain (Merseyside) and after the tour we went to the Families day at Boscombe Down. Happy Days Bob

Bob, I remember going to Wroughton sometime in the very late 60s or possibly 1970. We had just moved to Wiltshire and one of the ladies who worked in the transport cafe my Dad bought was married to a guy who worked in the tower at Lyneham. He got us in and I recall seeing about 20 Canberras lined up, all had been struck off charge I believe.
